Page 4: Use, Conclusion
Use
The BoomBoom speaker is pretty good for a portable speaker. While it won't have the bass of a standard pair of desktop speakers, it is better than many laptops speakers we've heard over the years. Since the unit is so slim, it lends itself to be carried in a laptop bag with ease. Pair this with an MP3 player and you can listen to music without having headphones on. While some usefulness is lost without the speaker being able to work without external power, most people will have an available USB port to power the device with. You can also bring along a portable USB power source like the Choiix Power Fort.
Since the speakers are so small, they had a bit of a tinny sound. This is pretty normal when you have small speakers. They just can't produce the same quality sound as bigger (cheaper) speakers can. You are sacrificing sound quality for portability. For road warriors, the portability is much more important. Lugging around a heavy pair of speakers isn't a good option.
We would have liked to see a audio-in jack instead of the built-in cable. If the cable breaks, so does the BoomBoom itself. Since the audio wire wraps around the unit, we noticed it pulling and getting nicked if we had it improperly seated. You need to have some caution while setting up the speaker and putting it away after use.
This speaker has no volume control. You'll have to rely on the volume controls built into the device providing the audio. Almost all MP3 players and the like have volume controls. This isn't a big issue. Still, we would like to see a volume knob on the unit.

Conclusion
The Cooler Master Choiix BoomBoom portable speaker has a MSRP of $24.99. Some people may think twice about purchasing this setup for use with their laptop. Most people are fairly happy with the sound coming out of their laptop speakers and we agree. This is for those people that want to have a bigger oomph and for those that want to listen to their MP3 players without having headphones on. For these people, the Choiix BoomBoom is a great device. We expect retail pricing to be a bit less expensive than the MSRP and if you need portable speaker, the BoomBoom is a good choice from Choiix. Slip it into a laptop bag and you're good to go.
