Final Verdict
The Canary retails for about $250 (Amazon Link) at the time of this review. It is not in the same market segment as the previous IP cameras we've reviewed because it isn't an IP camera, at all. It is a total security solution that has an easy to use interface. Sure, it is a self-managed solution, but there's no monthly fee for the basic tier and most people will find it gives you enough space to have that piece of mind.
For the crowd that doesn't want to have a custom setup with IP cameras and tons of configuration, the canary is a worthwhile product. It is simple, easy to use, and gets the job done. We had some hiccups on a complicated wireless network, but for security, we like using wired connections anyway. On more standard networks, the setup was a breeze. If you have a smartphone and want an easy to use security system for piece of mind, Canary fits the bill.
