Video Review
Final Verdict
Synology's DS415play Network Application Server retails for about $500 (Amazon Link). Compared to the DS415+ that we reviewed earlier, this model seems to come in with a slightly less expensive price with the added benefit of offloading on the fly transcoding to support hardware. However, while the price decrease is nice, the DS415+ is still the better overall model thanks to its beefy CPU and RAM combo which will last longer as the device ages.
Still, if you have lots of high end video at 4K with high bitrates and your devices struggle to play it right now, the DS415play may be the right choice for you. It's still a great NAS and backed up by Synology's excellent software suite to handle any network job you throw at it.
