DataCom, Meru Networks and Clavister Official Suppliers to LOVE Stockholm 2010
Largest temporary wireless network ever in the Nordics built for the Royal wedding
STOCKHOLM, June 14 -- The Swedish Crown Princess Victoria will marry Daniel Westling in Stockholm on the 19th of June 2010. The City of Stockholm honors the marriage with a two week celebration; LOVE Stockholm 2010. Thousands of journalists are expected to attend the event. They will spread text, photos and video to the world via the largest temporary wireless network ever built in the Nordics. Swedish network provider DataCom has been appointed Official Supplier to LOVE Stockholm 2010 and will provide high-speed Internet access together with Meru Networks and Swedish network security specialist Clavister.
The assignment from the City of Stockholm is to provide The Media Center, several theme areas and approximately 10 hot spots around the city with fast and secure wireless connections. The Media Centre, which is the largest and most complex ever built in Sweden, will host approximately 3,000 working journalists during the celebration.
DataCom was appointed Official Supplier to LOVE Stockholm 2010 after having delivered a successful wireless network to the Volvo Ocean Race Stockholm stopover in 2009.
"We are honoured that the City of Stockholm selected us among the other giant partners and providers. With over 20 years experience of IT, and a strong competence in IT infrastructure, we are confident that we will assure a solid network delivery, just as we did in Stockholm during Volvo Ocean Race 2009. We have teamed up with the same partners, Meru Networks and Clavister, and together we have built a secure and fast wireless network that is the largest temporary network ever in the Nordics," says Ralf Aspholm, Managing Director DataCom.
Reliable wireless coverage
Sweden is a strong supporter of technology and for LOVE Stockholm 2010 it is crucial that the technology works exceptionally well. Meru Networks was chosen by DataCom because of its proven ability to support large numbers of concurrent users with predictable and reliable wireless coverage. Meru Network's virtual wireless LAN (WLAN) solution is easy to deploy and scalable, having delivered Wireless-like-Wired(TM) service for similar, large scale events around the world.
"We are very happy to have been selected to provide the wireless LAN infrastructure for such a fantastic event. There will be many journalists from all over the world and countless many visitors connecting to the network. An event like this with many concurrent users, with a demand for reliability and high speed access, is where Meru really shines," says Bo Ericson, Vice President Europe Meru Networks.
Meru Networks (NASDAQ:MERU) are supplying more than 50 AP320i access points, from the high-performance AP3000 series platform, the industry's first enterprise-class 802.11n access point, as well as Meru Network MC3000 controllers. Two controllers will share the load and the third will act as a failover. To ensure network performance throughout the event, DataCom will build a two layer system in order to be sure of load balancing and to provide a failover function.
Secure wireless connectivity
Swedish network security specialist Clavister will provide protection for incoming and outgoing internet traffic via specialized firewalls to ensure that nothing inappropriate takes place and that information and online users are protected throughout the event.
"Most hot spots around the world, like airports, shopping malls etc are totally open, and many people do not realize how dangerous this potentially is," says Jonas Herner, VP Sales Clavister Nordic Region.
"Visitors using the LOVE 2010 hotspots for internet access can do so in the knowledge that they are secure. We have employed our most advanced network security technology to combat threats like intrusion, eavesdropping, and identity theft. We are splitting the traffic over two 1GB Internet links for load balancing and guaranteed bandwidth. We also have a failover function in place to deal with situations where one link goes down," he concludes.
The security will be provided by Clavister SG4370 firewalls with its advanced intrusion detection functionality. To guarantee necessary bandwidth and to avoid bottle necks at critical locations Clavister's advanced traffic management system will be used as well.
DataCom is organizing the integration, deployment and set-up, Meru Networks is supplying the WLANs and controllers and Clavister is providing specialized firewalls to protect incoming and outgoing internet traffic and online users.
