JERSEY CITY, N.J., June 17 -- As cell phone carriers like AT&T move to end unlimited usage plans, consumers have a new weapon in the arsenal to fend off overages and "gotchas." A new application called QuickMin is the first of its kind to display remaining cell minutes where talkers can't miss it--on the application's badge.
Avoiding overages with QuickMin is the first step toward taking control of cell phone charges and learning how to budget usage. QuickMin is a snap to configure. Simply input the user's phone number and a few carrier details. QuickMin's badge updates daily with the talkers' minutes balance. It can also be configured for reminders that alert users once the minutes are below a specified threshold.
Joseph Piccirillo, one of the creators of QuickMin, developed the application after he received a cell phone bill with $250 in overage charges.
"Although many of the major cell phone carriers offer customers a way to check their minute and data usage online, most consumers don't have the time or discipline to check their account, or family members' accounts daily," said Joseph Piccirillo, VP Innovation and Technology for Wildboom.
Bill shock and convenience were the impetus for developing QuickMin - accurate cell minute usage displayed with zero interaction required by the user. Take a daily quick look at the application's badge icon and you know exactly how many minutes are left for talking.
QuickMin also makes children and adults aware of how much they're talking. It can be used as a reminder and teaching tool for budgeting phone usage.
"Parents can set alerts that remind kids when minutes are running low signaling that it's time to decreasing talking because they're running out of minutes," added Piccirillo.
