Jane Harman's WiFi Scoff Coincides With Newsweek Bid Going Political
TORRANCE, Calif., July 12 -- On the heels of Politico and the New York Observer reporting on Harman's bid for Newsweek going "political" Jane Harman becomes the implausible victim of a WiFi security breach on the same day.
Mattie Fein, Harman's opponent for the 36th congressional district, detailed damage to freedom of the press if a Harman acquisition were to take place based on Jane Harman's strong arm tactics with the New York Times. The timing of the sinister Jane Harman cyber breach deserves closer inspection. Fein states, " I find it ridiculous that the Chair of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Intelligence had this type of breach with her internet security. As someone whose millions of dollars of shares in Harman International also included financial ties to a wholly-owned company until this spring, QNX software in Canada, involved in cyber security and encryption software at a top-security clearance level, the technology available to her is beyond the ordinary internet user."
Harman International is still involved with QNX after the acquisition by RIM. Fein continues, "In addition, the timing of the rumored 'breach' of Harman's WiFi oddly coincides with the pushing of the Cyber Security bill Jane Harman currently is attempting to maneuver through Congress."
Harman International acquired QNX Software in 2004 which sent the stock soaring to almost $125 a share. During that period QNX technology through Harris Corporation received Department of Defense contracts for use in the Joint Tactical Radio Systems on the Falcon III used by ground troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has been used by NASA and other defense systems. "Jane Harman has said she breathes security 24/7. Now there are rumors that her own internet has been compromised, yet she is involved with one of the top cyber security software companies in the world. Further, this software through QNX is used by our own military and distributed to countries like Russia and China under Harman's watch without knowledge or constraints of distribution to rogue countries. And yet she expects the voters of the 36th district to look to her for securing our nation. Harman has been silent as has Newsweek on my call for her to divest from Harman International shares due to their business ties to Iran. Her silence with the rumors of a cyber security breach, begs the question as to whether she is making political-hay by playing the victim to divert attention away from my open letter to Jon Meacham of Newsweek calling for his due diligence in the acquisition process of the magazine."
