Fluke Networks Releases Second Edition Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting Guide

Acclaimed Book Addresses the Fundamentals of Networking Technology for Anticipating, Identifying and Solving Problems that Engineers Face Every Day

EVERETT, Wash., July 15 -- Fluke Networks, a world leader in network installation, monitoring and analysis, announces the second edition of its Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting Guide:  Field-Tested Solutions for Everyday Problems.  The second edition is a real-world guide to help anticipate, find and solve network problems fast and is a follow up to the book's popular first edition, which was a sought after resource for network and system administrators.

While the evolution of technology has in some cases simplified the tools engineers use to perform their jobs, understanding the basics of networking remains a necessary and valuable skill.  According to Debra Curtis, research vice president in the Gartner IT Operations Management group, "basic training opportunities are not as common as they once were, so today's network engineers often lack access or exposure to the fundamental information that engineers were accustomed to a decade ago."  Engineers and technicians can turn to the Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting Guide for guidance, starting with the fundamentals of networking, running through troubleshooting and triage, moving up through performance optimization.

"We've long been a friend of the industry, striving to offer practical information that's useful for those professionals tasked with installing, supporting, monitoring and troubleshooting today's networks and infrastructure," said Gary Ger, Vice President of Marketing, Fluke Networks.  "The release of this indispensable resource further exemplifies our commitment to the continued development and support of network engineers."

The Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting Guide provides trustworthy information for best practices in IT networking, offering real-world advice for today's core technologies, addressing the requirements of network engineers and technicians for solid information on the fundamentals of networking, including:

--  Using the OSI model to more efficiently troubleshoot networks layer by
      layer
--  Copper and fiber-optic cabling:  theory, operation and troubleshooting
--  Media Access Control (MAC) Layer:  Ethernet theory and operation
--  Identifying and resolving problems related to IPv4. protocols
--  Preventing problems before they occur
  --  Discovering device behavior
  --  Troubleshooting switches
--  Using a protocol analyzer more successfully
--  Creating network documentation to more efficiently prevent and resolve
      problems

Authored by Fluke Networks' Neal Allen, a senior engineer in the Fluke Networks Technical Assistance Center (TAC), the recently released book has received praise and positive feedback from industry stakeholders and influencers, including a member of the IT Knowledge Exchange Community.
