NComputing to Deliver Computer Access to 600 Schools in Bihar, India
Transforming Economics of PC Purchasing Brings Desktop Access to Thousands of School Children
REDWOOD CITY, California, August 3, 2010-- NComputing, the world's fast growing desktop virtualization company,
today announced it has been selected to provide desktop computer access to
600 government schools as part a computer literacy initiative launched by the
Bihar government. The goal of this initiative is to build 600 computer labs
throughout the State to make computer access and learning available to school
children for the first time.
Each of the 600 government schools will have a 12-seat computer lab, made
possible by attaching 10 NComputing X550 desktop access devices to 2 desktop
PCs. NComputing's desktop virtualization software and hardware solution
provides affordable initial and ongoing desktop computing access. In addition
to low initial cost of purchase, NComputing solutions require 75% less
maintenance and 90% less energy consumption than traditional all-PC labs.
NComputing devices only use 1 watt of electricity compared to 120 watts for a
PC. This is a crucial advantage as Bihar often faces shortages in electricity
supply.
Said Stephen Dukker, NComputing CEO "In a region of such promise as
Bihar, where almost 60% of the population is under 25, much of its future
lies in the next generation of educated and ICT aware students. Our products
and technology overcome challenges of costly PCs and on-going maintenance,
infrastructure and limited energy resources. We are proud to be involved in
this computer literacy initiative In just 3 years, over 18000 schools around
India have turned to NComputing to deliver desktop computing access."
The NComputing solution is based on a simple fact: today's PCs are so
powerful that the vast majority of users only use a small fraction of the
computer's capacity. NComputing's desktop virtualization solution taps this
unused capacity so that it can be simultaneously used by multiple users. Each
user connects their own monitor, keyboard and mouse to an NComputing device
which is then connected to the shared PC. Each user gets a full PC
experience. NComputing devices are easy to deploy, rugged, and only use as
low as 1 watt of electricity.
