China Grants Samplify Patents for Wireless Base Station Technologies
Chinese Government Forging Strong Business Relationships with Multinationals
SHANGHAI, Aug. 9 -- Samplify Systems, Inc., a leading provider of signal-compression technology, semiconductors, and solutions, today announced it has been granted its first patents in China. The following China utility model patents were granted by the China State Intellectual Property Office covering the use of compression on links that carry digital baseband or radio frequency (RF) signals in wireless base stations (BTS) manufactured or sold in China:
Patent Numbers
Apparatus for compression of baseband signals in base
-------------- transceiver systems
200920178152.5
Apparatus for compression of signals in base transceiver
200920178151.0 systems

Samplify's Prism IQ compression technology is now protected by these Chinese patents. Prism IQ significantly reduces the cost and capacity of fiber-optic connections, based on the Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI), between the radio units and baseband units at the top and bottom of a wireless base station, respectively. As today's wireless environments migrate to 4G, Samplify's compression technology increases today's fiber-optic capacity from 10 Gbps to up to 20 Gbps for TD-LTE deployments in China.
According to Al Wegener, Samplify CTO and founder, "The deployment of TD-LTE in China will require up to 20 Gbps connections between the radio units and the baseband units. Working with China's leading mobile BTS manufacturers, we have already verified 2:1 data compression rates which will save millions of dollars as China rolls out TD-LTE nationwide."
Today's announcement is a win-win for both American and Chinese companies as it further demonstrates the Chinese government's willingness to enhance the country's business environment and relationships with foreign corporations.
"Protection of intellectual property is the cornerstone for enabling China's migration from 'Made in China' to 'Designed in China'," says Tom Sparkman, Samplify CEO. "These patents not only protect our technology, but will give Chinese OEMs wider access to international intellectual property that will accelerate their time to market for differentiated solutions."
