Rhomobile Announces RhoHub 2.0

World's First Mobile Development As a Service Offering Supercharges Enterprise Smartphone App Development

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 8 -- Rhomobile, the makers of the Rhodes smartphone app framework, today announced RhoHub 2.0, the next generation of the world's first Development-as-a-Service for mobile. RhoHub 2.0 simplifies the process of building native mobile applications for iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Android phones by offering a SaaS solution for development and hosting of crossplatform native smartphone apps. Mobile developers can build their apps online without installing SDKs for various smartphones locally. Additions in RhoHub 2.0 include: the ability for a developer to use their own local IDE or editor of choice, support for Rhodes 2.1 and use of any development branch of Rhodes, support for RhoSync 2.0's best in class sync capabilities, built-in version control, and production quality hosting with quality of service guarantees.

"RhoHub 2.0 lets developers create apps for iPhone, BlackBerry, WindowsMobile and Android within their web browser from anywhere making the build process faster and more affordable," said Adam Blum, CEO of Rhomobile. "And with the addition of our easily implemented RhoSync 2.0, offered hosted on RhoHub, developers can quickly create and maintain powerful enterprise-class native smartphone apps with the ability to work and sync with offline data."

By offering Development-as-a-Service, RhoHub reduces development time, allowing developers to build native smartphone applications without having to install specific smartphone OS SDKs on their machines. While performing hosted builds and version control, RhoHub 2.0 now also allows developers to use their local editor or IDE of choice.

Rhomobile's Rhodes smartphone app framework, available in Software as a Service form in RhoHub 2.0, enables developers to leverage existing HTML and Ruby knowledge to build native mobile applications, which take full advantage of smartphone capabilities such as GPS, PIM data, geo-location, native mapping, camera, barcode reading and signature capture. RhoHub now supports the 2.1 release of Rhodes. And it allows app developers to use any version of Rhodes including the very latest development master branch or older releases.

Using Rhomobile's RhoSync 2.0, which is provided in hosted SaaS form on RhoHub 2.0, users of Rhodes-based applications can work with their synchronized local data even when they are offline and disconnected. RhoSync 2.0 is the only sync server to use a nonrelational ("no SQL") database cache for unsurpassed sync server scalability.  RhoSync is also the only sync server to use the native push APIs present on modern smartphones to allow for near realtime data updating without coding.

RhoHub also now features built in version control. Specifically it provides integration of your project with the industry-leading git source control system and gives each of your apps a git repository. Developers can easily version their projects and collaborate with other developers on their team.

Finally RhoHub now offers quality of service guarantees. All synchronization (RhoSync) apps are hosted at runtime on the Heroku Ruby cloud application platform used by over 80,000 Ruby on Rails apps.

"We're excited about working with Rhomobile because together we can provide Ruby developers with a powerful, complete platform for building sophisticated mobile applications," said Byron Sebastian, CEO of Heroku. "Rhomobile's industry-leading native smartphone sync server combined with Heroku's quality of service and easy manageability creates a unique offering for smartphone build, collaboration, sync and hosting for today's mobile developers."
