Northern Virginia Technology Council Assessment Team to Begin Pro-Bono Work at Arlington National Cemetery

16 NVTC Members to Assess Business Processes and Technology to Address Burial Record Keeping Needs

HERNDON, Va., Sept. 13 -- The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) announced today that, after several productive meetings with staff at Arlington National Cemetery, it is moving forward immediately to conduct a pro-bono assessment of the Cemetery's processes and technology. Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC and The MITRE Corporation are collaborating with thirteen other members of NVTC to conduct the assessment, which is expected to be complete within 60 days. The purpose of this initiative is to identify and develop solutions to restore America's confidence in the integrity of Arlington National Cemetery. At the conclusion of this assessment, NVTC will provide a written report to Arlington National Cemetery Executive Director Kathryn Condon and the Secretary of the Army with the findings and recommendations.

The sixteen members of the NVTC Arlington National Cemetery Task Force are: Booz Allen Hamilton, MITRE, SAIC, Blue Canopy, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), CGI Federal, Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), CSC, The George Washington University, HP, Lee Technologies, Salient Federal Solutions, SoltecOne, Synaptitude, Unanet and Vistronix.

"The sixteen members on NVTC's assessment team bring unparalleled expertise and resources to this project," said NVTC President and CEO, Bobbie Kilberg. "We appreciate Director Condon's responsiveness and look forward to working with her and her staff in order to quickly and efficiently assess their processes and technology."

In August, the Department of the Army accepted NVTC's pro-bono offer of assistance in the assessment of Arlington's technology requirements. NVTC's offer followed a request from Senator Mark R. Warner (D-Va.), who sought a remedy to the massive record keeping problems at the Cemetery.

"It is gratifying to see this process moving forward with specific, common sense steps," said U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner. "I appreciate the willingness of Army and Arlington National Cemetery officials to continue working in close partnership with these NVTC member companies. Fixing the problems at Arlington has to be everyone's priority, and I am pleased to see this strong partnership move forward."

The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) is the membership and trade association for the technology community in Northern Virginia.
