Everything Channel's IPED Announces New Cloud Computing Research

Report Cites Virtualization as a Stepping Stone to the Adoption of Infrastructure as a Service and Highlights a New Technology Delivery Model for Service Providers and Vendors to Address

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ --Everything Channel's IPED Research today announced the availability of a new report highlighting the emergence of infrastructure as a service (IAAS) and emergence of a new technology delivery model. The report, "The Evolution of the New Delivery Model:Virtualization as a Stepping Stone to Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) in the Cloud" was based on cloud-based research delivered at IPED's 2010 Channel Leadership Forum.

IPED's latest research finds the relationship between hardware virtualization and pure cloud IAAS is growing at the mid-market and enterprise levels.  And as more organizations seek to take advantage of cloud computing benefits, a new hybrid model of delivering technology is emerging.  The report outlines the new delivery models and highlights the critical success factors both MSPs and IaaS vendors should consider as they capitalize on the market opportunity.

Additional findings include:

    --  Backup and recovery options continue to be number one driver to embrace
        IaaS;
    --  Yet, 52% of partners and 61% of customers cite data security/privacy as
        the highest risk concerns for IaaS adoption;
    --  The percent of service providers promoting desktop virtualization and
        IaaS will double by year-end 2012;
    --  Those managed service providers (MSPs) that are not proactively reaching
        out to educate customers may be left behind

"Cloud computing continues to dominate much of the discussion in the market, yet many are hesitant to devote more than 10 to 12 percent of their budget towards investing in these technologies.  To pave the way for faster adoption, MSPs must to recognize that virtualization is the precursor to cloud computing and begin educating customers before the first mover opportunity is lost," said Rauline Ochs of IPED. "By laying out the IaaS ecosystem, highlighting the partner model of the future for an IaaS environment and providing a methodology for addressing the hybrid delivery model, this report arms service providers and IaaS vendors with the information they need to turn a cloud discussion into cloud revenue."
