It is 'The Wild Wild Web' Out There

Video Helps Kids Understand and Deal with Cyber Bullying - on their terms

SEATTLE, Nov. 4, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Cyber bullying, it's in headlines all too often these days as literally millions of kids gain access to new technology and the online world. With incidents of cyber bullying on a dramatic rise, the educational experts at Twisted Scholar have just released their latest anti-bullying DVD The Wild Wild Web - a students guide to preventing cyber bullying. In development for over a year, the new DVD shows students that cyber bullying is not OK and there are ways to deal with the problem safely and skillfully, in a fun yet educational manner.

The Wild Wild Web provides a critical tool for educators, counselors, law enforcement officials and even parents to begin engaging young people on the subject of online harassment or cyber bullying.  With a humorous yet candid approach, the DVD targeted for kids ages 10-16 is fast paced and visually engaging. It speaks to kids, not at kids; helping them to understand what cyber bullying is, how it happens and how it can be avoided.

--  It establishes a common sense code of conduct for the web.
--  It empowers students - whether bully, victim, or bystander - to stop the
        cycle of harassment.
--  It offers concrete solutions and techniques to stop cyber bullying and
        diffuse a potentially dangerous situation.

"Online technology is an incredibly positive thing for a lot of kids.  It allows them to socialize in forms that are larger than their school or community.  And we shouldn't lose sight of that.  But we do have to realize that technology can make the common behavior of teenagers - be it bullying or something else spontaneous that may not be a good idea - worse, by making it permanent or widespread," Jill Tucker, educational writer, San Francisco Chronicle.

"The Wild Wild Web is a fabulous, fast-paced film that is perfectly targeted at the upper elementary/middle school audience! Relevant, funny, interactive, and informative, it hits the target squarely in the center and keeps this hard-to-corral audience captivated and learning," Betsy Ballard, Olweus trained anti-bullying counselor.

Filled with real-world techniques, testimonials and comments from experts and kids, the DVD establishes an open forum where students and adults can begin discussing this new phenomenon.

"I've been hearing the words 'cyber bullying' but I didn't really get it until I watched this DVD.  It's not boring like some news shows or school movie, it made sense to me and it's fun to watch," said Will, age 13.

"There's been talk at my high school about cyber bullying and I thought I got it, but after watching the video it helped me to understand what it really means, and ways to stay away from getting caught up in it!" added Colin age 15.

The Wild Wild Web is 26 minutes and sells for $69.95. It comes complete with a comprehensive teacher/discussion guide developed by Emmy-award winning educational writer Lynn Brunelle.
