SYNAPTICS | Scrybe Is Now Available for Free Public Download

Gesture Workflow Technology Offers User Customization, Increasing Productivity for PC Touchpad Users

NEW YORK, Nov. 18, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Synaptics Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNA), a leading developer of human interface solutions for mobile computing, communications, and entertainment devices, announced today its SYNAPTICS | Scrybe(TM) 1.5 gesture workflow technology is available for free public download. Scrybe leverages symbol-based gestures to accomplish complete tasks through touch: productivity actions for intelligent directed search, research, and shopping; entertainment actions for listening to music or viewing photos, videos, and recorded TV. Even basic actions to launch applications, open websites, and execute shortcuts boost productivity and efficiency by getting more work done with fewer steps using Scrybe.

After extensive public beta evaluation, Synaptics added new features for the Scrybe 1.5 release based on user feedback and usability testing. These features include:

--  Language Support. Scrybe now supports 33 languages.
--  Custom Gesture Symbols. You can create your own Scrybe symbols based on
pre-defined system shortcuts or your recorded keystrokes to create a
        truly personal workflow experience.
--  Customization. You can change default application settings, tailor
existing symbols to match your personal preferences and destinations,
and even add sounds for gesture feedback.

"With customization options built into the Synaptics TouchPad(TM) driver and now Scrybe 1.5, we're enabling users to unleash the power of their touchpad for a richer and more personal user experience," said Ted Theocheung, vice president of Synaptics PC and Digital Home Division. "The productivity offered by gesture workflow technology built into Synaptics Gesture Suite (SGS(TM)) 10.2 featuring Scrybe is easily enhanced when users customize settings to meet their specific needs and preferences. We encourage all users to visit the Scrybe website to learn about new features and capabilities, and to suggest new feature requests via the online forum."

Scrybe 1.5 gesture workflows enable users to perform tasks using the TouchPad without a keyboard. This advanced gesture feature provides faster results and eliminates typographical errors in common workflows such as directed search, digital media control, photo viewing, email, and presentations. For example, to perform a search, highlight the desired word or phrase and "Scrybe" the "?" symbol to generate search results using the default search engine. When a user highlights content and "Scrybes" an "A" symbol, the browser will automatically generate Amazon.com search results for the selected keywords. To enhance the online purchasing experience the user can use gestures such as Synaptics ChiralScroll(TM), a circular motion with the finger, which can be used to scroll rapidly to the desired section then scroll slowly to check out a review. Two-finger scrolling allows quick movement to the top of the page. Another workflow example is using a Scrybe entertainment gesture to launch your desired media application. Users could then use a three-finger flick to control the playback: flick up to start play; flick right to advance to next track; flick down to stop. Gesture workflows enable fun and intuitive navigation without lifting a hand from the touchpad.

Scrybe is optimized for Synaptics multi-touch-based TouchPads, but also supports existing Synaptics single-touch TouchPads. SGS 10.2 allows users to save TouchPad profile settings in addition to Scrybe preference settings. Based on common entertainment and productivity usage models, SGS 10.2 utilizing Scrybe's gesture workflows are intuitive and help users increase their productivity and enhance device usability.
