National Data Center Service Provider, CoreLink Data Centers, Announces Transition to IPv6

Proactive Upgrade Puts CoreLink Data Centers at Forefront of Next Generation in Internet Routing; Customers to Benefit from More Efficient Networks, Increased Flexibility

MT. PROSPECT, Ill., June 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- National data center service provider, CoreLink Data Centers, LLC (http://www.corelink.com) announced today that it is transitioning to IPv6, the milestone shift in Internet Protocol (IP) address formatting approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (ITEF).  CoreLink's voluntary and proactive adoption of IPv6 not only keeps it in a leading position among national data center service providers, but also enables its customers to accommodate the latest in routing technologies and infrastructure.

During and after the transition to IPv6, customers will enjoy dual support for both the current IPv4 and new IPv6 protocols.  By incorporating IPv6 now, CoreLink's customers will gain maximum benefits from the new standard, which replaces the soon-to-be-exhausted IPv4 IP address repository with a virtually unlimited number of new IP addresses.

"Our adoption of IPv6 will simplify the process of Internet traffic exchange for our users," said Charles Picasso, Chairman and CEO of CoreLink.  "The shift to IPv6 is an important transition for the worldwide Internet community.  We are committed to making this change as seamless for customers as possible."

In place since 1981, IPv4 has been the longtime standard for IP communications routing.  The massive growth of the Internet, however, has caused the 4.3 billion possible IP addresses under IPv4 to nearly run out.  The last top-level block of IPv4 addresses was assigned by the Internet Assigned Numbers authority in February 2011.  Although many assigned addresses remain unused at the lower levels, a new system with a greater possible address base was needed.  By approving the move to IPv6, with 340 undecillion (3.4 x 10-to-the-38th) possible combinations, the ITEF expects IPv6 to satisfy worldwide demands far into the future.

CoreLink's transition to IPv6 will result in increased flexibility for customers as well as greater interoperability between network systems and equipment.  It will also improve performance and ease of use of Internet communications.

CoreLink's support for IPv6 further extends the capabilities of its full suite of data center hosting solutions including managed security and data services, business continuity solutions and disaster recovery and network connectivity services. All CoreLink solutions are designed to meet and exceed the market's demand for security, scalability and continuous availability.
