3LM, BoxTone Bring Enterprise-Ready Security to Android Mobile Devices

Strategic Alliance Makes Handsets Powered by Android Ready for Business by Delivering Industry's First and Only Enterprise Security and Management Solution across an Android-based Device's Complete Mobile Lifecycle

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- (CTIA ENTERPRISE & APPLICATIONS(TM) 2011 Booth #707) -- Android is enterprise-ready through a new strategic alliance between 3LM, a subsidiary of Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc., and a provider of enterprise-grade security, management and remote access for Android-based mobile devices across Android handset manufacturers, and BoxTone, the leader in Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM). The alliance delivers the first full lifecycle embedded security and management platform for mobile devices and applications running on the Android operating system (OS).

According to a recent comScore Inc., Reports August 2011 U.S. Mobile Subscriber Market Share( )on the key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during the three month average period ending August 2011, Google Android OS-based devices continued to gain ground in the smartphone market reaching 43.7 percent market share. Explosive growth is driving an Android BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) phenomenon as workers seek to connect their personal Android smartphones and tablets to enterprise IT networks.  This consumerization of IT is driving strong demand for enterprise-safe security and management to the Android platform - to eliminate enterprise concerns associated with potential Android open source vulnerabilities.

3LM has made handsets running the Android OS business-ready, giving IT enhanced protection and management of devices and applications through strategic alliances with major handset manufacturers, and through its enterprise server console that is available as part of a complete end-to-end mobile device management platform. By aligning 3LM's solution with BoxTone, enterprise IT can now secure, manage and achieve unprecedented levels of service and support for Android OS-enabled devices as they do with other operating systems - namely BlackBerry and iOS. By combining 3LM's solutions built-in at the device level and its powerful enterprise server console with BoxTone's industry standard end-to-end EMM platform - which delivers full lifecycle mobile management from device activation, provisioning, configuration and change tasks to mobile device management and support - Android OS-based devices and applications can enjoy enhanced security on the device and over the air (OTA).

"We initially built the 3LM solution to answer strong user demand to rapidly deploy and secure Android OS-based devices. By pairing our solution with BoxTone's EMM platform, enterprises can realize more than just security; they can manage the full mobile lifecycle from a single unified platform," said Tom Moss, co-founder and CEO, 3LM. "BoxTone brings the broad industry credentials, major installed base, multichannel distribution model and EMM platform for integrating the 3LM platform for full lifecycle enterprise mobility management for Android."

"At BoxTone, our goal is to fully mobilize the enterprise quickly, securely and reliably, and our strategic alliance with 3LM enables us to further extend our support for Android, as we have for all major device platforms," said Alan Snyder, CEO, BoxTone. "3LM's deep Android experience, licenses with major Android handset manufacturers, and platform-level security and management controls give BoxTone the ability to secure and manage Android OS-enabled devices and applications as we've done for BlackBerry and iOS devices for years. Now enterprises can say yes to consistent, safe and reliable security and management for any devices operating on the major mobile platforms."

The 3LM-BoxTone platform will be demonstrated at the CTIA ENTERPRISE & APPLICATIONS(TM) 2011, being held October 11-13, 2011 at the San Diego Convention Center at booth #707; San Diego, Calif., and at the Gartner Symposium ITxpo 2011 being held October 16-20, 2011, at Walt Disney World resorts at booth #507A; Orlando, Fla.
