Trover Expands Mobile Discovery Network to Android
Free App Enables More Explorers and their Friends to Share Local Treasures
SEATTLE and SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- O'Reilly Android Open -- Trover LLC, a start-up company created for explorers worldwide, today formally launched an Android version of its popular mobile discovery network at the O'Reilly Android Open Conference. The free Trover app (http://www.trover.com/android) allows people to share location-specific discoveries of remarkable places and things across its growing community in a fun, visual way.
O'Reilly Media selected Trover to participate in its Startup Showcase, which takes place this evening. The Showcase gathers 15 of the newest mobile companies that represent the creativity and range of apps that make up today's Android ecosystem.
Launched this summer for iPhone only, the Trover community has grown to more than 100,000 users in more than 160 countries. Android availability will allow the company to scale its community, significantly expanding the size and scope of its social network and discovery content.
Spatial Browsing: A New Way to Explore
Trover inspires people to delve into their surroundings, tapping their curiosity, creativity and desire to share local gems with other explorers. Viewing discoveries organized in a spatial way on Trover is proving more fun and engaging than reading a list of search results, and often leads people to surprising places and things they never knew to look for.
"Our community members are an eclectic group of taste-spotters, storytellers and photographers who have amassed a treasuretrove of unique things to see and do at locations around the globe," said CEO Jason Karas. "The launch of Trover on Android represents our next step in building this passionate community and the collection of splendid things they discover -- from tiny family-run bakeries to hidden swimming holes and architectural wonders. Android will make it possible for many more friends to explore together and share extraordinary content on Trover, regardless of the smartphone they carry."
