Netflix Expands Support for Android-Powered Smartphones and Tablets

New Version Of Netflix App For Android Supports Android 3.x-Powered Tablets And Expands Availability Beyond The U.S. To Include Canada And Latin America

LOS GATOS, Calif., Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) today expanded its support for the Android(TM) mobile operating system with the release of a new Netflix app for Android. The new app adds support for tablets running Android 3.x and, for the first time, lets Netflix members in Canada and Latin America instantly watch TV episodes and movies streaming from Netflix on their Android-powered smartphones and tablets.

The new Netflix App for Android adds Android 3.x-powered tablets to the list of Android devices supported by Netflix in the U.S. and significantly increases the devices supported by Netflix in Canada and Latin America. Netflix members can access the service on their Android devices by installing version 1.5 of the Netflix App, available as a free download in the Android Market(TM). Android-powered smartphones are rapidly gaining in popularity. Analyst firm Gartner Inc. expects Android will account for 49 percent of the smartphone market by 2012. Android-powered tablets are an emerging, but rapidly growing category.
