Trend Micro Joins Industry Leaders in the Effort to Secure Critical IT Healthcare Infrastructure
Trend Micro extends security leadership in healthcare market as a founding member of the Medical Device Innovation, Safety and Security Consortium.
CUPERTINO, Calif., Nov. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global cloud security leader, today renewed its commitment to the security of the nation's critical healthcare infrastructure and announced its membership in the Medical Device Innovation, Safety and Security Consortium (MDISS).
As a founding member, Trend Micro joins the U.S.-based, non-profit Consortium in helping to protect public health and well-being by advancing IT risk management practices to ensure the wide availability of innovative and safe medical devices.
Beyond the security concerns facing most industries, healthcare is confronted with a unique set of threats that pose additional risks to its critical infrastructure:
-- First, the growth of biomedical devices that are linked to networks and
exposed to malware could adversely affect functionality and therefore,
patient care and safety.
-- Second, the use of personal and mobile devices is exposing the network
to a broad range of "bring your own" consumer devices of unknown and
uncontrolled security posture. These unsecured devices put patient care,
data privacy, and network operations at risk.
The MDISS Consortium aims to raise the industry's awareness of these risks, provide education on how the risks can be mitigated today, and to drive regulatory and technology efforts to support long-term solutions.
