EIZO NANAO Designs Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGAs into Newest High-Definition LCD Home Entertainment Monitors
Spartan-6 FPGAs enable EIZO FORIS FS2332 compact design with superior performance at lower cost
TOKYO, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), today announced that EIZO NANAO CORPORATION ("EIZO"; TSE1: 6737) has designed Xilinx Spartan®6 FPGAs into its 23-inch EIZO® FORIS® FS2332 color LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors for home entertainment. It is the first model to incorporate EIZO's proprietary Smart Resolution technology, which analyzes and adjusts imagery in real time to deliver higher resolution, more natural images.

The FORIS FS2332 is the successor to the FORIS FS2331, a previous model in the FORIS range of LCD home entertainment monitors. The new monitor features a 23-inch high-resolution, full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) LCD panel with a non-glare IPS (in-plane switching) panel with a wide viewing angle, 10-bit gamma correction, approximately 16.77 million full-color display combined with an energy-saving LED backlight, and dual HDMI inputs for connecting up to four devices at once.
Next week at Embedded Technology 2011, Xilinx will provide an in-depth look at the FORIS FS2332 design with a case study presentation during the FPGA track on November 18 at 2:00-2:45 p.m., and will showcase the company's embedded solutions at booth #F-32.
"Our goal in developing the FORIS FS2332 home entertainment monitor was faster Time-to-Market," said Koji Ishiwatari of EIZO's Chief Engineer of R&D, ASIC. "Spartan-6 FPGA enabled to significantly reduce our development time, and allowed us to launch newest and advanced function timely. By achieving both improved performance and reduced cost, we have received great response from market. Throughout the design process, Xilinx provided extensive technical support including advising EIZO on the implementation of a reference design provided by Xilinx distribution partner Shinko Shoji, which served as a big factor in our decision to use the Spartan-6 FPGA. We look forward to taking our engineering innovation to the next level by using the latest Xilinx 7 series of FPGAs."
Founded in 1968, EIZO is the world's leading specialist in high-quality visual display systems that have actively sought out the latest devices and cutting-edge technology to deliver excellent quality and reliability to satisfy consumer demand.
