Pandora Presents the Second Annual "Comics to Watch" Showcase During the 2011 New York Comedy Festival
Supports Emerging Comedians by Encouraging Indie Comic Submissions
OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Pandora (NYSE: P), the leading personalized radio service, today announced it will be presenting the second annual "Comics to Watch" showcase, a live show featuring the best up-and-coming young comedians from across the country, during the 2011 New York Comedy Festival. The showcase, which takes place tomorrow, November 9, at Carolines on Broadway, will be hosted by Jeff Ross and feature a wide range of diversely talented young comedians.
Pandora, known for pioneering personalized music listening and discovery, debuted personalized comedy earlier this year, powered by the Comedy Genome Project(TM) and featuring more than 10,000 comedy clips from more than 700 comedic artists. People can listen to comedy on Pandora in the same manner that they listen to music: by choosing a favorite artist or genre as a seed to start a station and then giving thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback to shape the station to their individual taste.
Manager of Curation, Pandora, Michael Addicott, said, "Pandora is about creating a great, personalized radio experience and comedy is a natural part of that experience. The opportunity to present 'Comics to Watch' was a natural fit for Pandora, as we connect artists with their current and potential fan base and the showcase was created to launch the careers of the next generation of comedians."
Pandora reviews all material submitted and is actively soliciting and encouraging indie comic submissions. Currently, listeners can create comedy stations based on their favorite comedians, or on popular genres such as political comedy, working class comedy, PG comedy, or comedy from the 2000s, 60s and 70s, or 80s and 90s, which can be accessed here: http://www.pandora.com/#!/genres/comedy
The "Comics to Watch" showcase will be filmed and premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL online at cc.com/standup on Friday, November 11 at 5:00 p.m. ET. For more information about personalized comedy on Pandora or to speak to a Pandora representative, please contact press@pandora.com.
