Comrex, Verizon Wireless Innovate Together at CES
LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Verizon Wireless and Comrex Corporation announced that the Comrex line of professional audio and video broadcast products are featured in the Verizon booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth #30259). Comrex will be showcasing its flagship products, the ACCESS IP Audio Codec and LiveShot IP Video Codec, which are utilized by radio and television broadcasters to transmit high-quality, low-delay audio and video over IP networks.
Since 1961, Comrex has been a leading manufacturer of professional broadcast products used by radio and television stations worldwide. In 2005, Comrex introduced its ACCESS Audio IP Codecs for radio broadcasters, which have been greatly enhanced by the ability to work seamlessly over the Verizon 4G LTE network. Comrex became a Verizon LTE Innovation Center participant in 2011 and has been working closely with Verizon in the continued development of 4G LTE for professional broadcast applications.
"The ultimate goal of the ACCESS product is to make wireless connections simple for broadcasters," says Tom Hartnett, technical director for Comrex. "This relationship allows us direct contact with not only the provider of the best-deployed 4G network in the U.S., but also a relationship with modem device manufacturers for easier integration. While 4G LTE has substantial benefits for our IP audio codecs used by radio broadcasters, television and live video broadcasters will find that 4G LTE offers amazing results when used with our forthcoming LiveShot IP Video Codec. 4G LTE offers very low delay, which is critical when delivering live remote video for television newscasts."
Verizon Wireless leads the way in 4G with the largest 4G LTE network and most reliable 4G network in the United States, which now covers more than 200 million people in 190 markets.
Verizon established its Innovation Program to encourage collaboration and help advance the 4G LTE ecosystem. The company's LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass., and its Application Innovation Center in San Francisco were created to inspire, enable and develop non-traditional devices, services and applications that take advantage of Verizon Wireless' industry-leading wireless networks. Through the Innovation Program, Verizon seeks to expand the possibilities of 4G LTE by working with diverse companies, from start-ups to established players, in industries representing a broad range of verticals.
