Italtel Chooses Octasic for its QoS Network Interconnection Product Line
GSMA MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS, BARCELONA, Spain, February 22, 2012/PRNewswire/ --
Italtel and Octasic showcasing the NetMatch Product Line at Mobile World Congress 2012
Octasic Inc., a leading innovator of media processing and wireless solutions, today
announced that its Vocallo MGW multi-core DSP platform has been chosen by Italtel, a
leading developer and designer of solutions for Next Generation Network and Next
Generation Service (NGN/NGS). Italtel has integrated Octasic's Vocallo MGW platform into
their latest NetMatch product line.
Italtel NetMatch is a family of products that provides carriers with a smooth
migration from TDM to IP and from existing mobile networks to LTE. It provides both voice
and HD video capabilities, along with all necessary protocol adaptations, making it easier
to offer audio conferencing, video conferencing, and telepresence capabilities.
"The idea behind NetMatch was to have a flexible, multi-purpose solution that is
future-proof. Market requirements led us to design a product that guarantees high
performance and allows our customer to effectively manage the complexity involved in the
interconnection between different networks and handle the related exchange of
information," said Federico Descalzo, Head of Smart Networks & Products Unit at Italtel.
"We chose Octasic's Opus-based chips to handle all media processing in NetMatch products
because we appreciated the flexibility that their technology offers us while keeping a
high density to power ratio. We are currently using the OCT1010 chipset for audio and fax
management. Future product releases will adopt the newer OCT2224M chipset, which more than
doubles transcoding capacity and provides effective high quality video processing."
The NetMatch product line demonstrates the flexibility of Octasic's Vocallo MGW
solution. The NetMatch-M provides the highest density TDM to IP media gateway. The
NetMatch-B provides a cost-efficient border gateway. Finally, for the fast-growing SBC
market, the NetMatch-S leverages Octasic's expertise to offer the best voice quality, low
latency transcoding, and unmatched port density.
"We are glad that Italtel found the right fit for their NetMatch product line with our
Vocallo MGW products," said James Awad, Director of Marketing at Octasic. "The ability to
run both voice and video channels on the same chip gives our customers an unparalleled
advantage over their competition. The OCT2224M device with the Vocallo MGW software is the
only solution on the market that supports a complete voice and HD video media gateway on
the same device. Competing solutions using hardware acceleration or external co-processors
are limited to their purpose-built feature set and cannot be software-upgraded to add new
features or capabilities, making it harder to implement a mix of audio and video on the
same card. We make it easier for carriers to deploy Next Generation services by offering
efficient hardware today that will not become obsolete as demand for video services
increase."
The OCT2224M is based on Octasic's power-efficient, asynchronous Opus DSP core
technology, offering the industry's lowest power per channel for voice and video DSP
processing. Italtel and Octasic will be showcasing the NetMatch and OCT2224M video
solutions at Mobile World Congress from February 27th to March 1st at booth 2H58 of Hall
2.
