BrandYourself.com Launches Free Platform to Help Any Person Control Their Name In Google
SYRACUSE, N.Y., March 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Today, venture-backed startup BrandYourself.com has officially launched the first do-it-yourself platform that makes it easy for any person to take control of their own Google results. In the past, if someone wanted to improve what showed up when they were Googled, they either needed to know the technical process of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or pay a reputation company thousands of dollars to do it for them. According to CEO Patrick Ambron, BrandYourself's free product simplifies the entire process so the average consumer can finally manage their own name in Google without being forced to break the bank.
Users simply submit any positive links they want showing up at the top of Google--their LinkedIn profile, a personal website, an article written about them, etc.--and use BrandYourself's simple tools to help those links rank higher for their name, burying unwanted results in the process. Users can also build a BrandYourself profile, which is the only one on the web automatically optimized to show up high in Google for their name.
The company started when co-founder Pete Kistler couldn't get an internship in college because he was being mistaken for a drug dealer in Google. Kistler realized Google is an incredibly important part of your reputation, but unless you know how SEO works--which most people don't--or have thousands of dollars to spend on a reputation company, there is nothing you can do. "We wanted to put the power of SEO in everybody's hands, regardless of how tech savvy or wealthy they might be," Kistlersays. "So we created a free product that makes it dead simple for anyone." Teaming up with Ambron and third co-founder Evan McGowan Watson, they put together a team, raised venture capital and began building the product.
BrandYourself's product is now available to the public. To sign up for a free account, go to BrandYourself.com. While the basic product is free, BrandYourself also offers a premium version with more powerful functionality for only a few dollars a month."Our mission is to help everyone take control of their own search results," said Ambron. "So even our premium features are affordable for the average consumer."
