Verizon Wireless Announces Plans to Bring 4G LTE Network to Small Towns in Middle Tennessee
The Only Wireless Carrier To Offer 4G LTE in Tennessee Lights Up Areas Around Nashville
NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless today announced it will expand the nation's largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to more than 25 towns in Middle Tennessee outside of Nashville in the coming weeks. This expansion will enable customers to use 4G LTE smartphones, tablets and mobile hotspots in more parts of Middle Tennessee to access wireless speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Verizon Wireless is the only carrier to currently offer 4G LTE service in the state and has invested more than $1.1 billion since 2003 to ensure residents and visitors have reliable wireless service throughout Tennessee.
With the planned 4G LTE network expansion in April 2012, residents in more communities throughout Middle Tennessee--such as Pulaski, Carthage, Woodbury, Waverly, Winchester, Centerville, Springfield, Portland, Lynchburg, McMinnville, and White House--will have access to the nation's fastest 4G network. Verizon's 4G LTE has been available since 2010 in metro Nashville and the surrounding areas, including Murfreesboro, Brentwood, Franklin, Dickson, Kingston Springs, Hendersonville, Gallatin, Lebanon, Spring Hill, Columbia, Tullahoma, Shelbyville and Manchester.
"While our competitors are just now focused on getting 4G LTE to major cities, we've had our 4G LTE network running in Nashville since 2010 and are now bringing the high speeds to the rest of the state," said Jerry Fountain, president of Verizon Wireless' Carolinas/Tennessee region. "Our 4G LTE network now covers more than 85 percent of Tennessee's population."
Verizon introduced its 4G LTE network to more than 200 million people in 203 markets across the country since December 2010 and offers more than 20 4G LTE devices, including tablets, smartphones, hotspots and more. In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
