SunGard Availability Services Announces Technical Preview of Enterprise-Ready, Apache Hadoop-Based Unified Analytics Service
WAYNE, Pa., April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SunGard Availability Services today announced a technical preview of its fully managed enterprise-grade, Apache(TM) Hadoop(TM)-based data analytics platform. By providing a managed service, the SunGard Unified Analytics Services(sm) (UAS) will free up organizations from having to manage their own data analytics infrastructure and enable them to focus instead on gleaning business insights from their Big Data assets. The SunGard UAS will provide the hardware, software and networking required for each customer's Big Data analysis.
The SunGard UAS is designed to scale up to petabytes of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, and intended to let organizations author and run Hadoop MapReduce analytics on their enterprise workloads. In addition, the SunGard UAS deliberately recognizes that the real world will continue to be heterogeneous and will involve structured, unstructured and semi-structured data all relating to each other. Accordingly, the services within UAS will enable the output of Hadoop-based analytics to be fed into relational analytics and vice versa. As a fully managed service, SunGard will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the UAS infrastructure. The service will run out of world-class SunGard data centers that feature built-in security, compliance with multiple regulatory and industry-standard requirements, performance and availability.
"SunGard will provide a fully managed Big Data analytics service where customers can bring their unstructured data sets and start analyzing them immediately -- and not be worried about dealing with the infrastructure or figuring out which specific version of the Hadoop stack might be best suited for their application," said Indu Kodukula, CTO of SunGard Availability Services. "By freeing up CIOs to focus on the business outcome, SunGard Unified Analytics Services will help organizations find value in their Big Data assets rapidly."
SunGard UAS will address the growing business requirement organizations face to extract more business intelligence and value from their massive volumes of structured, semi-structured and unstructured resources that continue to grow exponentially. The service will allow organizations to eliminate costs needed to purchase and manage physical infrastructure for their Big Data workloads.
With SunGard UAS, customers can quickly and easily bring data to the SunGard environment and begin Hadoop MapReduce analytics processes. Customers can transmit data to the SunGard site via the Internet, dedicated circuit or off-line bulk data transfer. The service also provides the ability for customers to utilize data from their existing storage, back-up their data and utilize recovery services. It provides an isolated physical compute capacity for performance and security for enterprises that have stringent data security and privacy concerns.
"Combining unstructured Hadoop-based processing with traditional relational analytics is critical to delivering business value from the vast amounts of data enterprises have at their disposal," said Scott Yara, co-founder and senior vice president of products at Greenplum, a division of EMC. "SunGard UAS is a great way for CIOs that are trying to get their arms around Big Data to experiment with it and develop solutions that are specific to their businesses."
SunGard UAS is designed to address data-intensive tasks including financial analysis, modeling risk, log file analysis, data mining, trade surveillance, web indexing, customer churn analysis, point-of-sale transaction analysis, recommendation engine, threat analysis and analyzing network data to prevent failure. The service is currently in technical preview with general availability scheduled for 2H 2012. Companies interested in participating in the SunGard Unified Analytics Services technical preview should contact unifiedanalyticsservices@sungard.com.
