Massachusetts Gaming Software Developer Supports Internet Poker Amendment

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week's Internet poker amendment proposed by State Rep. Daniel Winslow, R-Norfolk, finds support from local high tech companies, including Cambridge Interactive Development Corporation (CIDC), a Cambridge-based software developer for online poker in legalized European markets.

"This legislation is an important step forward for the Commonwealth, its residents, and Massachusetts-based high-tech companies.  The amendment provides for extensive consumer protection, high-value job creation, and significant revenue for funding the state," said Tim Dent, CEO of CIDC. "As a company that has developed online poker software for many overseas markets and complied with online gambling regulations in many nations, we believe this amendment strikes the proper balance between rigorous oversight and creating a sustainable market."

Given that online gambling in the United States represents a $12B market, according to a Goldman Sachs report[1], and a recent study[2] for the Florida legislature estimated that online poker could raise $90M per year in revenue for state governments, any development to legalize it will result in significant opportunities for the states that regulate and encourage job creation in this industry.

CIDC has communicated their support to Representative Winslow during the drafting process and is actively monitoring legislation in Massachusetts as well as other states such as New Jersey and Nevada where legislatures are considering legalizing online poker.
