Diametriq(TM) Delivers a Unique Approach for Managing LTE Control Traffic
Telecom Industry Veterans Start New Venture Building on the Assets of IntelliNet Technologies
MELBOURNE, Fla., April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Diametriq, an innovator in Diameter signaling control technologies, was launched today to focus on "Smart Signaling" solutions and meeting the ever increasing signaling traffic demands of 4G/LTE networks. The new company is derived from key assets including executive leadership, engineering, and technologies from IntelliNet Technologies, a wireless networks convergence company.
Diametriq centers on the need to manage and monetize control signal traffic in next generation networks. Control signaling for 4G networks is built around "Diameter," a protocol that is rapidly replacing SS7 used in older technologies. It has become the de facto signaling standard between gateways, billing systems, subscriber databases and policy controllers. The use cases continue to grow along with the rapid growth of applications used by smart phones and tablets which have created a surge in control signaling traffic. At the same time, it's not just about more traffic or bandwidth; data sessions from new smart devices in 4G networks commonly generate up to 20 times the amount of signaling traffic compared to legacy networks, placing tremendous stress on core network components.
Anjan Ghosal, CEO of IntelliNet Technologies and a veteran of the telecom industry, successfully spun out IntelliNet's Mobile Data Offload business last year to Ruckus Wireless of San Jose, California. "Retiring looked like an enviable option," notes Ghosal. "But the rapidly growing LTE signaling market provided opportunities that I simply could not pass up."
For this new venture Ghosal has teamed up with industry veterans Kumar Ramalingam heading up Product Development, Chris Knight, Product Management, and Dan Wonak, Marketing and Operations. "The core team brings over 100 years of combined signaling experience which we plan to apply to solve key issues in 4G networks," added Ghosal.
Diametriq's Diameter Routing Engine(TM) (DRE), the company's flagship product, provides load balancing, roaming and interworking that can be customized to an operator's specific requirements. The DRE functions as an application on the Diametriq Diameter platform which can be easily extended to other applications such as roamer steering or analytics. Key features of the DRE include the detection and management of congestion, advanced security features, and dynamic scalability where server instances can be added without interruption in service. The company builds on IntelliNet's Diameter technology and accomplishments, and boasts a high performance Diameter application platform that is already widely deployed by leading network operators around the globe. The platform is flexible to meet the demands of today's wireless operators that must manage the surge in signaling traffic brought about by the dramatic growth in smart phone, tablet and other wireless devices.
"Diameter usage is growing rapidly and the key to successfully meeting these challenges is having a high degree of flexibility," said Knight. "Many of our competitors are using legacy platforms to deal with next generation problems. They simply don't have the flexibility to keep up with evolving networks."
"For some time, now, Current Analysis has been closely following the Diameter Signaling requirements of LTE network deployments," said Peter Jarich, service director with Current Analysis, a leading market intelligence firm. "Earlier this year, when IntelliNet announced its Diameter Routing Engine, we welcomed another solid competitor in the space. Now that the company has rebranded and structured itself to focus on the Diameter opportunity, we look forward to the innovation they can bring in support of the expansion of LTE networks."
So why Diametriq?
Ghosal explains "Diametriq brings a unique approach to solve Diameter control signal issues. While others are looking at solving point problems we take a holistic view to the entire control signaling issue. Some would consider that as diametrically opposite to the conventional approach."
