Dubbed the DEI Global Design Center, the new endeavor is headed by Michael DiTullo, who assumed the newly created role of Chief Design Officer (CDO) for DEI on April 30. Mr. DiTullo most recently served as Creative Director of frog design, Inc., one of the world's most respected product design and innovation firms, where he led projects for clients such as Google, Proctor & Gamble, and Motorola. Prior to frog, Mr. DiTullo spent nearly a decade at Nike in leading design roles including Sport Culture Division Designer, Brand Jordan Division Designer, and Converse Design Director.
"Michael is a rare individual who combines creativity, vision, and front-line knowledge of the trends and technologies that will have the greatest impact on our target markets," commented Kevin Duffy, President of DEI Holdings. "When it came time to green light our investment in a Design Center, Michael stood out as the best leader for this exciting new venture. We're lucky to have him on board."
Mr. DiTullo and the Design Center will work closely with the respective engineering and marketing teams for each DEI brand to develop inspired products that meld differentiated design with the company's 30-plus years of highly-refined acoustic and technical capabilities. Audio engineering, software development, and other critical technical elements will continue to reside within the respective brand organizations.
"One of the many elements that attracted me to DEI is how the brands consistently come to market with products that provide superior audio performance and security solutions at a variety of price points, with equal emphasis on functional innovation and emotional impact," said Mr. DiTullo. "It's an approach that is emblematic of the most successful consumer brands in this or any market. What's critical going forward is that our products manifest the unique DNA of each of the DEI brands while delivering on key consumer insights and trends."
Mr. DiTullo received his BFA in Industrial Design from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design where he studied in conjunction with The Harvard Business School, the Cleveland Institute of Art, and The Domus Academy in Milan. He is a frequent competition juror and speaker on the global design circuit. For nearly a decade, he has been a contributor to the highly regarded online design magazine Core77.com on topics related to the current and future state of the global design profession. Mr. DiTullo currently lives in San Francisco, CA, but will soon transition to DEI's global headquarters in Vista, CA to build and staff the new Global Design Center.
