Verizon Wireless is Bringing the Power of Its 4G LTE Network to Logan, West Virginia

LOGAN, W.Va., June 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless today announced it is bringing the nation's largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to Logan on June 21.  With the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, customers can use their 4G LTE wireless devices in Logan to browse the Web, listen to music, stream live video, take advantage of thousands of applications, and stay in touch with family and friends, all with speeds up to 10 times faster than before.

"High-speed, wireless communications throughout West Virginia will help our state's businesses thrive in today's economy and open up economic opportunities," said Senator Jay Rockefeller, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.   "And it will enable families and rural communities across our state to access dependable, fast technology."

"This investment is helping to close the digital divide across West Virginia, and I'm thrilled that Verizon agreed with me and took on this important project," added Senator Rockefeller.  "Verizon's commitment to West Virginia shows the benefits that can result from millions of dollars of private investment to expand high-speed communications access.  We saw these results in Charleston last year, we're seeing them in Huntington and Logan County this week, and we'll soon see them throughout the state."

When Verizon Wireless turns on its 4G LTE network in Logan, customers who live in, or visit, the Logan area, including Chapmanville and along portions of U.S. Route 119 and State Route 10, will have access to the nation's fastest 4G network.

"From life-saving calls to business connections and family chats, wireless communications has proven to be a necessity," said West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. "That's why I am pleased Verizon Wireless will be expanding their high-speed service to Logan and surrounding communities. The benefits of a boost in the power of instant global interactions will be felt by businesses, families, and individuals."

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network is available to more than two-thirds of the U.S. population in 258 markets across the country and offers more than six times the geographic coverage of its nearest competitor's 4G LTE network.  Verizon Wireless customers looking to experience the nation's fastest 4G network can choose from the largest selection of 4G LTE devices, ranging from tablets, mobile hotspots, smartphones and more, including the new DROID INCREDIBLE 4G LTE by HTC, available in stores and online in the coming weeks.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
