Ricoh unveils high-speed office MFPs with innovative parts made from 100% recycled steel

Powerful, cost-effective devices with next-generation features are perfect for high-volume offices, corporate print centers and school systems

WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled the Ricoh MP 6002/ MP 7502/ MP 9002 series of office multifunction products (MFPs) offering speeds of 60, 75 and 90 pages per minute as well as advanced printing, copying, scanning, faxing and distribution capabilities targeting customers' most pressing business needs.

These new MFPs offer advanced, state-of-the-art capabilities: First, they encompass Ricoh's powerful new technology platform to dramatically improve enterprise information input, processing and output. Second, they deliver on Ricoh's sustainability promise, becoming the world's first office imaging products specifying a new kind of eco-friendly steel.

New MFP features
The next-generation features present significant new capabilities for organizations faced with the challenge of better managing a growing volume of information. The MP 6002/ MP 7502/ MP 9002 series seamlessly interfaces with the Web, cloud services and a wide range of applications that help improve efficiency and productivity. A powerful new full-color, touchscreen user interface offers easy customization for each department, workgroup or user's workflow. The Web browser enables printing from the Web and access to cloud services for document management. The new devices also offer wireless printing capabilities from mobile devices and convenient walk-up service for users with a USB memory or SD card.

A new eco-friendly indicator shows "Total Print Pages" and "Paper Saving Ratio (%)" with "Duplex and Combined Print Ratio (%)." To keep information private and protected, the new MFPs include a variety of secure technologies, including HDD encryption, data overwrite, support of the Adobe PDF/A format and ISO15408 common criteria certification - important for government and the financial industry.

These new models offer enhanced capabilities that chip away at total cost of ownership. Now, six MFPs can share a single fax line, with inbound faxes automatically forwarded to email addresses, network folders or the hard drives of any networked MFP. Previously, every fax device needed its own transmission line.

Recycled steel
The new recycled steel sheets, developed by Ricoh Company, Ltd. and partner Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co. Ltd., are made in electric furnaces entirely from scrap, but for the first time display the essential mechanical properties of traditional virgin steel sheets made in blast furnaces. These properties include appealing surface characteristics, formability, workability and conductivity.

"Our new 100-percent recycled steel from scrap is one of Ricoh's principal initiatives aimed at reducing the additional use of resources by 25 percent by fiscal 2020 and by 87.5 percent by 2050 from the 2007 baseline," said Ike Kakegawa, Vice President, Environmental Sustainability and Product Health/Safety/Accessibility, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "It also reclaims an already-used resource and adds value to it for new applications. Japan has a surplus of this resource and ships it overseas."

To preserve virgin resources, Ricoh also downsizes products when possible, develops renewable resources like biomass plastic and recycles aggressively.

About electric-furnace steel
Steel sheets made in electric furnaces have mostly been used as a construction material with an emphasis on strength. The joint development undertaken by Ricoh and Tokyo Steel has succeeded in ensuring the quality and features required for office equipment use, including thinness (a thickness of 2mm or less), electrical conductivity and processability, enabling their use in office equipment. The new MFPs are available now. The Ricoh MP 6002 has an MSRP of $20,000; the MP 6002SP, $24,500; the MP 7502, $26,500; the MP 7502SP, $31,000; the MP 9002, $34,500; and the MP 9002SP, $39,000.
