Wi-Fi Alliance Selects Marvell to Participate in Wi-Fi CERTIFIED TDLS Test Bed Program

Program Participants Collaborate to Enable Smart Setup and Management of Networked Devices

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Marvell (Nasdaq: MRVL) today announced its selection by the Wi-Fi Alliance for the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED TDLS test bed program. Through its membership in the Alliance, Marvell, along with other wireless industry leaders, will collaborate on the integration of TDLS, also known as tunneled direct link setup, into next-generation wireless devices. TDLS significantly reduces network congestion by enabling devices to intelligently communicate amongst themselves to connect and manage traffic loads.

"Marvell is dedicated to working with associations like the Wi-Fi Alliance to develop industry-wide standards that improve wireless performance, accelerating consumer adoption of Wi-Fi technologies in the home," said Bart Giordano, director of wireless marketing at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. "The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED TDLS program will significantly reduce the complexity required to set up and manage networked devices, simplifying consumers' experience in creating a truly connected home. Marvell is proud to be a part of this program and our investment in TDLS technology, which is implemented across our AvastarĀ® family of wireless chips, is clear testimony to our commitment to enabling an always on, always connected lifestyle."

TDLS is designed to simplify the setup and management of networked devices and provides the ability to securely stream content through the automatic discovery and setup of direct Wi-Fi links between devices that are connected to the same access point. Specific use cases for TDLS include the automatic connection of a media server, digital television and Wi-Fi enabled speakers or direct printing between a digital camera and networked printer. TDLS also improves overall Wi-Fi network performance and increases network capacity with existing infrastructure. Additionally, it enables devices to maintain network connectivity to the access point and direct links to other devices concurrently. Marvell has built TDLS support into its entire Avastar product line for consumer devices, including the Marvell Avastar 88W8787 Plug, which has been selected for the test bed.

"Wi-Fi CERTIFIED(TM) products deliver advanced technology, the best user experience and the latest security protections," said Edgar Figueroa, chief executive officer of the Wi-Fi Alliance. "We congratulate Marvell on its selection to the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED((TM) )TDLS test bed program and view Marvell's participation in the development of TDLS as instrumental in the achievement of an industry-wide certification for this technology."
