InStep Software Selected to Conduct Real-Time Environmental and Radiological Monitoring of Nuclear Power Plants in Illinois

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) chooses Chicago-based company's eDNA real-time data acquisition, storage and analytics software platform to monitor all seven nuclear power plants in Illinois

CHICAGO, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- InStep Software announced today that the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) has selected its eDNA software suite to perform real-time environmental and radiological monitoring of the state's seven nuclear power plants. The selection of InStep Software was accomplished as part of a competitive bid process.

InStep's advanced data management software will be used by IEMA to continually monitor, store and analyze data from Illinois' 11 commercial and three closed nuclear reactors. eDNA seamlessly integrates with the IEMA's existing monitoring devices and will immediately alert IEMA personnel of abnormal changes in radiation levels.

"Keeping public safety our top priority, we recognized the need to modernize our legacy system. We wanted to deploy a modern supportable software platform that could provide the customization and reliability that we require for such a mission critical application," said Kirk Lonbom, Chief of Information Technology at IEMA. "With InStep's eDNA software, we can modernize our capabilities and ensure we can continuously monitor critical environmental and radiological parameters and share information in real-time throughout the agency."

As part of the $1.4 million contract award with the state agency, InStep will replace the legacy monitoring system with a state-of-the-art, Microsoft Windows-based solution. The new monitoring system will be easier to support and maintain as well as provide more advanced and flexible visual representation of the collected information to IEMA personnel.

"We're excited to be selected by IEMA to replace their legacy monitoring solution and deliver a modernized nuclear monitoring system for the State of Illinois," said John Kalanik, President of InStep Software. "This system is critical to public safety, and eDNA provides a reliable, customizable and scalable platform to meet IEMA's monitoring and analysis needs."
