MotionsTek Announces Crowdfunding Campaign in Support of Tag*it, an Innovative Tracking Technology for Smartphones and Other Small Valuables
Unique tracking device aims to debut at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas
TAIPEI, Taiwan, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- New technology from MotionsTek (http://www.motionstek.com), a Taiwan-based technology developer, might put lost and found departments out of business. Tag*it is a discrete tracking device that pairs with a user's smartphone. By gauging relative motions, the technology knows when a wallet, purse, or other personal valuable is moving too far away. MotionsTek has launched an Indiegogo campaign with the objective of earning enough funding to participate in the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Learn more at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/tag-it-simple-life-pure-happiness?c=home.
Considering the cost of items like designer handbags and high-end smartphones, Tag*it represents a more than worthwhile investment. Users simply insert the small tracking device inside a wallet, purse or other valuable. The potential applications of the concept are almost limitless, and the suggested retail is less than $100.
"Tag*it is 'smart' tracking technology, which makes it unlike any other tracking tool on the market," explains Tim Chiu, marketing manager at MotionsTek. "Tag*it switches to a dormant mode when there's no immediate danger, preserving battery life. The algorithm we have developed all but eliminates embarrassing false alarms. Tag*it's inertial sensor can distinguish between ordinary motion and the motion of a wallet falling to the ground, or worse, a thief slipping it out of a pocket unnoticed."
Chiu added: "Tag*it is not merely about preventing theft or loss. It's about eliminating all of the wasted time people spend just 'looking for' things. With Tag*it, people can be more productive and carefree."
Tag*it relies on low-energy Bluetooth 4.0 technology to sync the device to a user's smartphone and comes with a micro-USB cable for charging. Under normal conditions, a single charge can last a month or more. Charging takes about two hours. Via the accompanying smartphone application, all the functions and settings can be controlled with only a few swipes.
MotionsTek hopes to raise at least $40,000 toward the goal of exhibiting at CES in Las Vegas. As the largest convention of its kind, CES provides an unmatched opportunity for new product developers to make an impression on journalists and fellow innovators. Many of today's most well-known technology products debuted at the show, including Blu-ray, HDTV, Plasma screens, 3D TV and Android devices. Tag*it hopes to join that remarkable list.
As part of the Indiegogo campaign, MotionsTek is sponsoring a Tag*it giveaway to contributors who share a story in the comments section. Contributors are encouraged to share their most harrowing experiences of losing something valuable and how Tag*it will prevent a repeat. Upon successful completion of their campaign, MotionsTek plans to send a free Tag*it to at least 50 storytellers.
MotionsTek envisions Tag*it as the prototype for an entire product family, with devices and applications tailored to specific user needs. Plans are underway for tracking tools designed for sports, health care and in-home settings, among others.
The Tag*it Indiegogo campaign will conclude on June 9, so there is still ample time for consumers to express their interest in the tracking technology with a generous contribution.
