Detour Introduces Experiential City Guides For The Modern Traveler With New Audio Tour iPhone App
10-Walk San Francisco Package Now Available - New York, Los Angeles and Chicago To Follow
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Detour, an iPhone application that reimagines audio tours, introduces experiential city guides that deeply connect urban explorers - visitors and locals alike - to more places in better ways than previously imaginable. By packaging together multiple guided walks that bring the invisible history of a city to life, as told by the people who made it happen, Detour city guides are an essential companion for the modern traveler.
Available now in the iOS App Store, Detour is the definitive San Francisco guide, a collection of 10 carefully curated and artfully designed walks that reveal the heart of the city. Through more than a dozen hours of discovery, people will enjoy a cinematic-quality experience that brings to life the past and present of iconic neighborhoods including Haight-Ashbury, the Castro, North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf, Telegraph Hill and more.
At $24.99, Detour San Francisco costs less than a ticket for many walking tours. Detour also now supports syncing with up to three additional iPhones, making the walks an affordable and socially inclusive experience with family and friends. A gifting option is available, just in time for the holidays.
Also today, Detour is announcing expansion to Chicago, Los Angeles and New York in 2016.
"Our mission is to help people connect to places," said Andrew Mason, founder and CEO of Detour. "There's only so much a guidebook can tell you. To truly connect to a city, you have to take to the streets. Detour is the app that takes you there in a meaningful way."
The app's new high-performance engine adds an unprecedented level of user flexibility. It can handle tours that play different content and adapt to different paths, reflecting variables such as business operating hours or the weather. It handles non-linear Detours that allow walkers to enjoy a "Choose Your Own Adventure"-style experience and also provides recommended restaurants, shops, and sights along each route.
In addition to expansion into new cities, Detour will also be coming to Android in early 2016.
