Withings Launches Hy-Result: An Advanced Advisory Service for the Better Control of High Blood Pressure

First Health In- App Premium Purchase from Withings Clinically Proven to Deliver Same Standard of Advice as Specialist Physicians

BOSTON, Feb. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Withings, a leader in the connected health revolution, has launched Hy-Result, a sophisticated advisory algorithm that helps people interpret and assess personalized interventions that can aid in the better management of high blood pressure. Developed by a team of hypertension specialists from Hospital Georges Pompidou in Paris, Hy-Result intelligently analyses blood pressure data from in-home monitors such as the Withings Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor and provides users with personalized assessments of their cardiovascular health based on a person's medical data, lifestyle factors and physical statistics, in addition to identifying strategies for preventative measures to heart health risks and better management of high blood pressure. Akin to a virtual medical specialist and priced at $4.99, it is the first in-app premium service to be launched within the award-winning Withings Health Mate application.

Clinically Proven - Scientifically Driven

Created by an international scientific committee composed of high blood pressure experts under the leadership of Dr. Postel-Vinay, Hy-Result combines the professional advisory protocols laid down by the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) with scientific data on the management of blood pressure. (1)

Ahead of its adoption by Withings, Hy-Result has been validated in a head-to-head clinical trial, comparing its recommendations with that of hypertension specialists.  In a study published in November 2015 in the peer reviewed Blood Pressure Monitoring Journal(2), it was found that Hy-Result software delivered the same advice as specialist physicians 95.4% of the time, making it at least as accurate as that of a specialist in current practice.  While not intended as a replacement to professional consultations with cardiologists and general practitioners, the study does validate Hy-Result as a trusted tool to be used by patients and their caregivers between doctor visits.

Withings is committed to scientific validation of its connected health devices and Hy-Results adds to Withings' portfolio of imperial evidence showing the positive impact that devices can have on the personal management of cardiovascular health.  Earlier this year, Withings released the results of an 18-month study with the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) at four medical groups (Billings Clinic, Community Physician Network, Cornerstone Health Care, P.A., and Wilmington Health) that looked at the role of connected technology in helping people to control high blood pressure. It found that patients were better able to control their high blood pressure using an at-home monitor (in this project, it was the Withings Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor) with control rates improving from 38.6% to 70.0%.

How It Works

Hy-Result combines blood pressure data with information about the individual user to determine interventions that will best deliver results.  The first step is to ask the user questions about his/her lifestyle, medication, medical history and personal stats.  The user sets a daily reminder to take three blood pressure readings in the morning and three in the evening over a 5-day period. This can be with the Withings Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor or any blood pressure monitoring device, as the data can be entered manually into the app.

Blood pressure measurements are variable, hence the purpose of taking so many blood pressure readings.  Hy-Result provides a more complete look into an individual's blood pressure assessment by taking multiple readings over multiple days.  Since hypertension is considered a "silent disease," meaning many people live with it unknowingly, taking one's blood pressure regularly at home can be more effective than an annual visit to the doctor.

From this information, the protocol will provide users with personalized assessments of their cardiovascular health and identify strategies for preventative measures to heart health risks and the better management of high blood pressure.  Users can share a secure PDF report detailing their results and advice with their own physicians to better partner with medical professionals to take control of their own health.

Availability

Hy-Result can be purchased for $4.99 in the Withings Health Mate application (iOS only) from February 2016 onwards and is available in the US, Canada, UK and France in French and English.  It is the first premium health service offered within The Withings Health Mate application, named as one of Apple's Best Apps of 2014.

"With cardiovascular disease being the leading global cause of death, accounting for 17.3 million deaths per year(3), everyday monitoring blood pressure becomes an increasingly important part of anyone's healthy lifestyle," said Withings CEO and co-founder, Cédric Hutchings. "We are very proud to offer Hy-Result, which further delivers on the Withings mission to provide connected health services that are rooted in science and clinically proven to make positive impacts on health and wellbeing."
