Altair Demonstrates IoT-based Low-cost Water Quality Monitoring and Contamination Detection
Sustainability Demo Shows How Power Saving Mode-Equipped LTE-Based Sensor Offers Perpetual Wireless Fresh Water Monitoring at Fraction of Cost of Traditional Systems
BARCELONA, Spain, February 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Altair Semiconductor (altair-semi.com [http://www.altair-semi.com ]), a leading
provider of LTE chipsets, today announced its FourGee-1160 CAT-1 LTE chipset is providing
communication and up to ten years of battery life for Ericsson's low-cost water quality
monitoring demo at Mobile World Congress.
The demonstration (taking place in Hall 2, at Ericsson's Booth #2N60) is based on the
Chattahoochee Riverkeeper project [https://chattahoochee.org/about-us ] in the United
States, an initiative dedicated to protecting and preserving the Chattahoochee River
Basin. Ericsson and Altair are showing how the Internet of Things can provide solutions
that make the world more sustainable.
"With so much attention focused on the next gadget, Ericsson and Altair want to shine
the spotlight on one of the foundations of human existence, water. IoT has tremendous
potential in helping to preserve water quality and warn against contamination," said Eran
Eshed, Co-Founder and Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Altair. "IoT
for sustainability is truly important, and we are proud to be playing a role in bringing
it to the world through our PSM-enabled chipset."
Altair's CAT-1 FourGee-1160 chipset extends the battery life of idle devices, when
compared to other LTE modules. An LTE-only option offers low current to improve device
battery drain, crucial with an application like river monitoring. This characteristic,
plus Altair's ability to price its chipsets lower than the competition, helps bring IoT
applications to reality.
