Texas Certifies New Voting Technology Verity Voting System Passes Rigorous Review

AUSTIN, Texas, March 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- After thorough testing processes at both the federal and state levels, the Secretary of State's office has certified a technologically advanced new voting system for use in the State of Texas. Hart InterCivic's Verity® Voting system attained certification in the state on February 26. Texas is the eighth state to certify Verity, and the system has been successfully implemented in Virginia, Idaho, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington and the Osage Nation in Oklahoma.

"Nearly half of Texas counties - and most Texas voters - already use and appreciate Hart election technology, and the numbers are growing. The official nod from the Secretary of State paves the way for these jurisdictions to adopt the advances we have built into Verity," said Phillip Braithwaite, President and CEO of Hart InterCivic.

"Verity performed strongly during the State's process, as evidenced by the unanimous recommendation for certification from state examiners," he said.

An integrated suite of software and a thoughtful combination of U.S.-assembled, purpose-built devices and enterprise-grade commercial hardware, Verity is designed from the ground up to make the election process easier and more secure for voters and administrators. The system supports paper and audio ballots, and it is fully accessible to all voters, including those with visual impairments.

Verity's compact size is one of the system's attributes that is getting a lot of attention. The briefcase design and collapsible ballot boxes save warehouse space and make the system far easier to transport and set up on Election Day.

The second major release of the system is currently undergoing federal certification with the Election Assistance Commission (EAC). This upcoming system release will add direct record electronic (DRE) voting, favored in most Texas elections, to Verity's integrated toolset. Built on the best features of Hart's first-generation system, this new Verity release will include the only all-new true DRE on the market.
