Film Engine Unleashes the Power of Real-Time & VR to the Future of Film Making

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, Germany, April 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

Today Cevat Yerli, President and CEO of game developer and publisher Crytek, announced
Film Engine, a new independent company and a new technology designed exclusively for film.
In partnership with Crytek, Film Engine will provide filmmakers and VR storytellers with
real-time cinematic production software. It is the first all-in-one, real-time
storytelling software to streamline every aspect of the traditional film production
pipeline, and it drastically reduces the time and resources necessary to create
top-quality visual effects and CG animation films.

Film Engine can be used for everything from pre-vis, post-vis, and pitch-vis to final
production for film, television, commercials, animation, and visual effects. It also
incorporates the latest motion capture, camera tracking, digital camera, and lighting
technologies in the first truly modern end-to-end filmmaking software suit. Tasks that
once took hours or days can be done in real-time in Film Engine, and creators are left
with more of the most valuable resource of all: the time to focus on visionary
storytelling.

Development of the first Film Engine prototype began in 2008 at Crytek. While game
engines like CRYENGINE can be powerful tools for cinematic work in games, they lack some
of the features necessary for traditional film industry workflows. Using CRYENGINE as a
foundation, the team at Crytek set out to optimize the engine for film.

Work started on a prototype called Cinebox, which was evaluated by more than 300
production companies and used on feature films such as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and
Maze Runner. Feedback from first-hand industry experience powered continuing development
and inspired the team to re-write the Cinebox software from the ground up and create a new
company. Film Engine was the result.

The Film Engine team's dedication to perfection paid off: Film Engine is intuitive,
fast, and cost-effective. Using Film Engine, filmmakers can produce Hollywood-quality
effects with home studio on a very low budget. Indie filmmakers will be able to realize
million-dollar ideas on a small budget, while Hollywood veterans will be able to create
high-quality visuals quickly and efficiently.

Jean-Colas Prunier - Film Engine's Creative Director and visual effects veteran of
films such as Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Life of Pi - first
met Cevat Yerli in 2014, when the two realized they shared a vision that could solve many
of the problems faced by filmmakers.

"We realized that by combining our visions we could create something that was greater
than the sum of its parts. By addressing the needs of filmmakers with the technology of
the games industry, we were able to create an entirely new cinematic production tool that
will completely change the way the industry works," Prunier said of their work together.
