IoT and Beauty Unite in simplehuman's New Sensor Mirror Pro
The luxury household brand announces the release of a lighted, sensor-activated mirror with Amazon Alexa, Nest Cam and IFTTT integrations
TORRANCE, Calif., May 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- simplehuman, a leader in luxury housewares designs and innovation, announced the release of its new sensor mirror pro, which integrates a suite of connected platforms to give users a revolutionized beauty experience.
The sensor-activated mirror is an upgrade from traditional vanity mirrors on the market, offering two magnifications (5x and 10x) as well as simplehuman's patented tru-lux light system that mimics natural sunlight. The mirror embodies the brand's mission of efficient living, marrying technology and product innovation to streamline the daily beauty routine and help users see themselves in the best light.
Adaptive motion sensor
The mirror lights up automatically as your face approaches. Once in use, the sensitivity of the sensor increases so it won't turn off unexpectedly.
Tru-lux light system
With a color rendering index (CRI) of 90, the tru-lux light system provides unparalleled color correctness, brightness and clarity. The LED light ring not only mimics natural sunlight, but also reflects light consistently and evenly.
Magnifying companion mirror
The base mirror has 5x magnification, while a companion mirror provides even more detail with 10x magnification. The smaller 10x mirror can be magnetically stored behind the face of the mirror or attached to the front for convenient use.
Adjustable color temperature
Capable of more than 50,000 color variations, users can manually adjust the mirror's brightness and color temperature using the simplehuman app. The app also has a variety of preset light settings, or users can use their phone to capture ambient light from different locations to recreate the same color temperature and intensity in the mirror.
"We wanted to create a mirror that gives customers the best view," said simplehuman CEO Frank Yang. "This means a mirror that can mimic light from any environment."
In addition to its dynamic lighting capabilities, the sensor mirror pro is also Wi-Fi enabled. Through the simplehuman app users can connect to Amazon Alexa, IFTTT and Nest platforms, giving them even more control.
Works with Nest
simplehuman announced its integration with Nest Cam, developed through the Works with Nest program. If the Nest setting is selected, the mirror will automatically change the color temperature and brightness throughout the day according to the light settings from the camera. Whatever lighting condition Nest Cam sees can be recreated perfectly through the sensor mirror pro.
Amazon Alexa (coming soon)
Through Alexa, users can control the lighting on the mirror using simple voice commands. The mirror can brighten, dim or change color temperature, all through voice activation.
If This Then That (IFTTT)
The integration of IFTTT allows users to control the mirror through custom Recipes that follow the command "If this, then that." IFTTT is used to automate the light reflected in the mirror. For example, users can set the mirror to the overcast setting by using the Recipe: "If the weather is cloudy, set my mirror to overcast."
By connecting to these smart home platforms, the app offers an easy way for users to customize their mirror settings. Users who currently own the simplehuman wide-view sensor mirror can also take advantage of these features, through an over-the-air update to the app.
"Traditional vanity mirrors are outdated," Yang said. "In an age where consumers can control anything through their phone or by voice activation, we wanted the mirror to fit seamlessly into day-to-day life."
