Marvell Disrupts the Switch Market with Programmable Access Switch Optimized for 2.5GbE Deployment with 40GbE Uplinks

Marvell's new Prestera 98DX325x family is software compatible with the market-leading Prestera 98DX324x 1GbE, offering a full software turnkey solution

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and TAIPEI, Taiwan, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Marvell (NASDAQ:MRVL), a world leader in storage, cloud infrastructure, Internet of Things (IoT), connectivity and multimedia semiconductor solutions, today announced the Prestera® 98DX325x campus programmable switch. The 98DX325x switch is optimized for 24- and 48-ports of 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), and has dedicated 10GbE and 40GbE uplinks and stacking ports. The devices offer wire speed packet processing bandwidth of 168Gbps in an optimized and compact footprint, and are now available for sampling.

"2.5GbE network ports are being widely deployed in campus environments. This is a prime time for a disruptive, cost-effective 2.5GbE access solution with 40GbE uplinks or stacking," said Michael Zimmerman, Vice President and General Manager, Connectivity, Storage and Infrastructure (CSI) Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc.

Coupled with Marvell's 88E2040 quad NBASE-T((TM)) physical layer devices (PHYs), the Prestera 98DX325x offers a cost-effective way to support the convergence of the wired and wireless network while utilizing already deployed CAT5e Ethernet cabling and infrastructure to migrate from 1GbE Copper to 2.5GbE copper. The 98DX325x can be implemented in various applications including 802.11ac Access Point uplinks, switches, servers, workstations and high-end PCs. Additionally, with the 98DX325x, Marvell now brings software-defined networking (SDN) and switch abstraction interface (SAI) to 2.5GbE campus environments enabling private cloud deployments with a full software stack turnkey solution.
