First East Coast Virtual Reality Arcade to Open in MakeOffices
NotionTheory and MakeOffices bring new VR experiences to the public at Dupont Circle
WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- NotionTheory, a leader in virtual reality software development, and MakeOffices, creator of coworking communities where the workplace meets the sharing economy, today announce the launch of the East Coast's first virtual reality (VR) arcade. The arcade, notionVR, will open to the public this August in MakeOffices' Dupont Circle coworking community. notionVR features a curated showcase of interactive entertainment applications, selected specifically to highlight the unique tools and user experiences possible through virtual reality.
"Virtual reality is the next big media frontier and serves as an empathy engine for us to connect with people and our surroundings in ways that we never have before," said Kristian Bouw, CEO and co-founder of NotionTheory. "To see is to believe, and virtual reality is one of those rare spectacles that can only be experienced to truly understand it."
At notionVR, curious entertainment-seekers and avid gamers alike will have access to the HTC Vive, one of the newest headsets that, unlike competing devices, provides users with dual-wield hand controllers and base station motion sensors which allow full-range motion. Guests can choose from the latest and most popular games and content and be fully immersed in a rich virtual experience.
While participants are in the virtual environment, others will be able to share the first-person view on a projector display. The goal is both to introduce the latest games in virtual reality, but also to educate the community about virtual reality and its potential applications across various sectors, including education, health tech and more.
"We're excited to demonstrate the potential of VR to our members and the public in a first-of-its kind arcade on the East Coast," said Raymond Rahbar, CEO, MakeOffices. "At MakeOffices we host vibrant communities of entrepreneurs and innovators who share space and new ideas, and the notionVR arcade brings that all together."
MakeOffices members, a community of movers and shakers that take advantage of a shared environment and receive shared amenities and regular networking opportunities, will receive free access to notionVR reservations as part of their membership benefits.
Those who would like to learn more about notionVR and pre-register for the first sessions can visit notiontheory.com/notionvr. Reservations will be made in 30-minute time slots that cost $15, which can be shared by multiple users or grouped into longer experiences.
