Canon And Virtual Imaging Reduce Common Grid-Related Artifacts And Misalignment Errors
New Optional Scatter Correction Feature of CXDI Control Software NE Eliminates the Need to Use An Anti-Scatter Grid During Certain Types of X-ray Examinations
MELVILLE, N.Y., Sept. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Grid misalignments and grid-related artifacts may result in repeat exposures, which can lengthen exam times and decrease productivity. Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, and Virtual Imaging, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., have announced a new optional "grid-free" imaging feature of CXDI Control Software NE. Eliminating the need to use an anti-scatter grid during certain types of X-ray examinations, this Scatter Control feature can help provide several key benefits for both healthcare professionals and their patients as compared to imaging with the grid, including increased productivity and patient comfort, all without compromising image quality.

Productivity and Patient Comfort
The Scatter Correction feature eliminates the need to use an anti-scatter grid during certain types of X-ray examinations, which streamlines workflow for technologists and makes positioning more comfortable for patients, as compared to using the detector with a grid. Eliminating the need to align the grid can help shorten exam times and increase productivity.
Image Quality
Included as an option with CXDI Control Software NE, the Scatter Correction feature improves the contrast of images taken without a grid to a level similar to images taken with a grid. Where a grid physically reduces scatter and thereby improves the contrast, the software emulates this process. The result is an image with scatter and contrast similar to results achieved when taking the same image with the same CXDI detector and a grid, but with the benefit of not having to use a grid.
"Providing the ease of use and outstanding image quality customers have come to expect from Canon, this new optional feature can help healthcare professionals say goodbye to grid misalignments," said Tsuneo Imai, vice president and general manager, Healthcare Solutions Division, Business Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. and president, Virtual Imaging, Inc. "As compared to imaging with the grid, grid-free imaging means eliminating the need to align the grid, as well as more comfortable positioning for the patient, making this new Scatter Correction feature a real win-win for technologists and patients alike."
