New 2101P One-Port ONT From Zhone Technologies Designed for Industrial GPON Applications
New ONT Premiers at BICSI Fall Booth #616
OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE) has introduced the 2101P GPON Optical Network Terminal (ONT), its first single-port ONT with Power Over Ethernet (PoE) designed for industrial and enterprise applications. The new compact ONT fits inside a four-inch electrical box and has a rugged, aluminum casing to withstand high temperatures. The ONT will be on display at BICSI Fall, where Zhone experts will be available for interviews.
"In new buildings and structures where hundreds of widely dispersed PoE ports are needed such as stadiums and manufacturing facilities, it's important that equipment is compact, but durable enough to install anywhere," states Keith Nauman, vice president of product management for Zhone Technologies. "Because the 2101P ONT can fit inside a standard four-inch by four-inch electrical box, it dramatically simplifies network design and installation."
Each ONT supports up to one gigabit of bandwidth and is ideal for deployments that require a large number of PoE Ethernet ports in several locations within one venue. For instance, stadiums can use the single-port ONTs to power Wi-Fi access points that enable thousands of fans who are all simultaneously streaming and posting to social channels, while schools and universities can use them to support heavy bandwidth needs in classrooms, common areas and cafeterias. From airports to shopping malls, enterprises need multiple high-speed Internet access points to enhance the customer and end-user experience, in addition to supporting Internet-dependent services required to run the facilities. The fully-integrated solution allows end-users to share the same experiences whether they are in-venue or remote, thus businesses create deeper levels of engagement with new and existing customers.
With up to 30 watts of PoE output, the 2101P ONTs power a variety of Internet-connected devices and systems including Wi-Fi access points, security cameras, IPTVs, VoIP phones, IP wall clocks, building control systems, kiosks, PoS devices and more. The 2101P ONT is Plenum-rated so that each ONT can be installed anywhere within a building, including areas with HVAC systems where hot or cold air is circulating. The single-port ONT can withstand temperatures up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
