miniCASTER® TWINSAT Breaks Speed Record on NewsSpotter
MUNICH, September 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
The miniCASTER(R) has broken a new bandwidth record on Eutelsat's NewsSpotter ka band
with its new TWINSAT antenna system, as the company announced today at the International
Broadcast Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam (Stand 1.A76).
The miniCASTER(R) TWINSAT is a double antenna system where two Sat-IP modems are
bonded simultaneously to achieve a doubling in performance. Where traditional NewsSpotter
systems have a limitation with 10 Mbit/s up-/or down speed, users of miniCASTER(R) TWINSAT
antennas reach 20 Mbit/s up/down speed. This is important for high end productions using
H.265/HEVC, where bandwidths up to 20 Mbit/s are crucial.
One big advantage of this system is the 100% reserve in case of bandwidth reductions,
(known as rain fade) in which two systems will maintain around 10 Mbit/s, providing enough
bandwidth for HD live signals. An additional positive factor is that where ka-band systems
lack of redundancy, the miniCASTER(R) TWINSAT is fully redundant. Every single part of the
system is available twice. In case of one system going down, the second system will stay
online and keep the signal up uninterrupted.
This is doable by using intelligent bonding systems like the ones from LiveU. The new
LiveU bonding unit 710 combines the two Sat-IP bandwidths into one single stream and
encodes in H.265 format (HEVC) and is recommended to be used with miniCASTER(R) TWINSAT.
