UniPixel Awarded 13.3-inch Consumer Market Laptop Program for 21st Design Win of 2016

Program To Include XTouch(TM) and Diamond Guard(TM)

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- UniPixel, Inc. (NASDAQ: UNXL), a provider of advanced touch solutions to the touchscreen and flexible electronics markets, today announced the 21(st) design win awarded to the Company since the beginning of calendar 2016. The Company has been awarded a 13.3-inch laptop program from an existing customer directed to the consumer market. The new device will include UniPixel's leading-edge XTouch touchscreen sensors and Diamond Guard hardcoat to maximize touchscreen responsiveness and seamlessly support the Microsoft Pen protocol.

Jeff Hawthorne, president and chief executive officer of UniPixel, said, "We are starting to receive design awards for increasingly higher volume consumer devices, as compared to the products targeting the commercial market that has driven our revenue to date.  This laptop will contribute to our 2017 revenue growth as it comes to market."

"Increasingly, the combination of our XTouch sensors and Diamond Guard hardcoat is attracting new design wins as the demand for stylus use by technology users expands," continued Mr. Hawthorne. "The broadening adoption of the Windows 10 operating system, the Windows Surface Pro device, and other similar devices, are proliferating touchscreen technology and propelling the adoption of active stylus. The combination of touchscreen technology and active stylus appears to be on its way to becoming the industry standard. UniPixel is well positioned to be a leading provider of technology to enable this development on a broad scale."

"Our copper metal mesh sensors offer significantly lower sheet resistance, which enhances touchscreen and stylus responsiveness," concluded Mr. Hawthorne. "This type of design win validates our technology and demonstrates the confidence that major device manufacturers have in UniPixel's ability to manufacture and deliver critically important components for their next generation devices."

Volume production for this program is expected to commence in the first quarter of calendar 2017. The announcement of this new product win, plus the programs originally acquired in the April 2015 acquisition, the others awarded this year and the one product announced late in 2015, brings to 25 the total number of programs awarded to UniPixel.
