Toshiba Application Processor Drives Next-Generation Smart Wearable Device From World Media & Technology
ApP Lite(TM) TZ1000 enables Helo smart wristband to perform real-time health monitoring
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today announced that its TZ1000 Application Processor Lite (ApP Lite(TM)) series of processors for wearable and Internet of Things (IoT) devices is being deployed in the new Helo smart wristband from Miami-based World Media & Technology Corp. (Wor(l)d).
The ApP Lite TZ1000 integrates Bluetooth(®) low energy (LE) wireless communication, an ARM(®) Cortex(®)-M4F processor, and Flash memory in a single compact package. When active in Helo, it enables high-precision detection and collection of a user's vital-sign data, utilizing its low-power Bluetooth functionality to relay the data to the user's smartphone.
Wor(l)d's Helo smart wristband is designed to continuously monitor and analyze heart rate, blood pressure and respiration, and send the data wirelessly to a connected app on the wearer's smartphone. This is intended to allow users to maintain a history of vital statistics and activity over time, and give authorized healthcare providers access to the aggregated, anonymized data via the cloud.
"As the cornerstone of our ApP Lite offerings, the TZ1000 series processors have been successfully deployed in a number of innovative IoT applications," said Deepak Prakash, senior director, Logic LSI Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC. "We are pleased to be able to engage with Wor(l)d to help them bring Helo to market. Our TZ1000 low-power design enabled long battery runtime, and the development platform reduced the development time for Helo."
