Breathometer Launches Mint, The First Connected Oral Health Device That Provides Instant Results To Help Improve Oral Hygiene
Breathometer's Breath Analysis Technology Is the Smarter Way to Monitor Oral Health
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Breathometer (https://www.breathometer.com/), today announced it has started shipping Mint, a digital health device that enables consumers to track and monitor their oral health. The Mint device and smartphone companion app measures VSCs (Volatile Sulfur Compounds)(1), which are produced by anaerobic bacteria in the mouth. These bacteria are correlated with poor oral hygiene and oral health, such as gum disease and bad breath. Breathometer believes this product launch to be critically important as studies show that a major portion of the United States' population suffers from gum disease.(2)

"The launch of Mint reinforces our ongoing goal to deliver best-in-class digital health products that help everyday consumers monitor their health," said Charles Michael Yim, CEO and founder of Breathometer. "Research has shown that people with poor oral hygiene may be at a greater risk of developing serious diseases than those with good oral hygiene. The launch of Mint is a milestone achievement in that we're offering a simple and connected experience that provides individuals with a smarter way to monitor their oral hygiene."
How Mint Works
There are two components to Mint: the sensor device and the app. The pocket-sized Mint device pairs with a user's smartphone and uses a proprietary sensor array to provide an accurate reading of VSCs, indicators of overall oral health. Mint effortlessly samples air from one's mouth through the device, and in seconds the user is presented with their "oral report card".
The Mint app, which is available for iOS and Android, uses a proprietary algorithm to provide an accurate, repeatable reading from the device's sensor array. In a matter of seconds, the app shows the user's cleaning effectiveness by displaying the difference in VSCs when measured before and after cleaning. Supported with machine learning technology, Mint also provides personalized tips and tracks progress with supported programs designed to explore various types of oral health monitoring.
Breathometer was the first company to land an investment from all five hosts of ABC's Shark Tank when Breathometer debuted on the reality TV program in 2013. The release of Mint marks significant growth for the digital health company, which will continue to pioneer new consumer applications for breath analysis devices.
Mint retails for $99.99 USD. To order Mint or learn more, visit https://www.breathometer.com/mint or online on Amazon or Best Buy and find us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram or with the hashtag #SmartMint. Press can access the Mint press kit via Dropbox.
