HTC VIVE(TM) Expands the Viveport Family by Making Viveport(TM) M Available to Mobile VR Developers
Viveport Arcade, targeted at VR experience centers, also announced to enable Vive developers with a scalable channel to garner revenues offline
HANGZHOU, China, Oct. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- HTC Corporation ("HTC"), a pioneer in innovative, smart mobile and virtual reality (VR) technologies, today released Viveport M as a closed beta, a new addition to its Viveport(TM) family, at the joint Developer Forum of Alibaba Cloud's annual Computing Conference. Building on the current success of the Viveport VR content platform, Viveport M aims to deliver best-in-class content to Mobile VR users across hardware platforms. HTC also announced at the Forum the upcoming availability of Viveport Arcade, a VR content management and sales platform customized for offline experience centers. This combination of PC, mobile and offline versions of Viveport completes the Vive content platform portfolio, expanding new channels for developers to deliver their VR content to a much larger audience while creating new content revenue streams.
"Compelling content is the life blood of the burgeoning VR industry, but making great content isn't easy or cheap," said Alvin W. Graylin, China Regional President of Vive, HTC. "By expanding Viveport into mobile and offline channels, we are exponentially expanding the user base and revenue opportunities for VR developers around the world. This will give them the funds they need to not only survive but prosper, encouraging the creation of more exciting content."
Compatible with most Android phones, Viveport M is designed to allow users to more easily find and use high-quality mobile VR apps and 360° videos in both touchscreen and VR modes. The developer beta version of Viveport M is already available for download to registered Vive developers via the Viveport backend system, with the consumer version set to launch later this year.
In addition, Viveport Arcade, designed for offline experience centers, will work as the offline counterpart to the PC version of Viveport, which allows Vive developers to reach a rapidly growing base of avid VR users who haven't yet bought a Vive for their home. Viveport Arcade will make it much easier for VR arcade operators to legally acquire the most compelling VR content available, while the system itself will allow both operators and developers to accurately share the revenue from end users. Pilot programs for Viveport Arcade have already been deployed in a number of locations in the last 1-2 months and will soon expand to hundreds of gaming centers, amusement parks and karaoke bars across China and globally.
This series of developer support will jumpstart a brand-new wave of quality VR content for the Viveport platform and the entire VR ecosystem. HTC invites developers all over the world to register as a Viveport developer and unleash the unlimited possibilities of VR.
To further stimulate the VR developer community in China, HTC will soon hold the first-ever Vive Extreme Innovation Challenge together with FMB, the Chinese leader in competitive robot matches. The event will take place in Shanghai from October 22 to 30 and target VR developers who are interested in creating hardware integrated VR experiences to content.
