KNBOR, World's First WiFi-Producing Ceiling Lamp, Starts Kickstarter Campaign
HONG KONG, Oct. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hong Kong-based smart tech company Knbor Technology Co., LTD is launching a new innovative product called KNBOR, which seeks to provide a solution to a common problem that plagues Wi-Fi technology these days: coverage.
KNBOR is a unique smart ceiling lamp that features a multitude of programmable lighting options, all controllable from the lamp's own mobile app. The lamp's colors can be manually picked and synced to music. It can also be programmed to dim or brighten at certain hours of the day so as to mimic one's sleeping habits.
However, KNBOR's most notable feature is its Wi-Fi signal-producing capability. Connected to an Ethernet port, a KNBOR unit will instantly turn into a wireless router, essentially making the room where it was installed in a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Wi-Fi signals from standard routers can be easily blocked and cut-off by walls, shelves, and any other large furniture. This is the reason why a lot of people trouble themselves with proper router placement just to ensure that all areas of their domicile or office is sufficiently covered.
But KNBOR promises to take the busywork out of router placement by being a smart light solution and a perfect easy Wi-Fi source at the same time.
"Where there is light, there is Wi-Fi," as the motto on Knbor's website (http://www.knbor.com) goes. Each KNBOR unit produces a Wi-Fi signal every time it powers up, thereby providing coverage in each room a unit is installed. Even if a room is some distance away from the Wi-Fi source, it is still ensured a strong and stable Internet connection.
KNBOR unit utilizes its function with the latest Power Line Communication (PLC) technology. PLC promises to consume less electricity, yet still deliver a powerful Internet signal with fast transmission and zero strength loss. It has also been touted to be one of the most cost efficient methods with which one can equip a house with Wi-Fi. And since KNBOR units are to be placed high up on the ceiling, this ensures that the chance for dead zones will be reduced to nil.
The Knbor team is planning to seek backers for KNBOR on Kickstarter. There are plans for additional functionality if certain stretch goals and milestones are reached: at $100K, IFTTT support will be added, allowing KNBOR users to fully program their KNBOR units according to their needs (at $200K, KNBOR will be equipped with a dynamic lighting feature, giving it the ability to auto-adjust its brightness according to the hour of the day; and finally at $400K, KNBOR will have a video sync mode that allows it to sync its color according to what is currently displayed on a television screen).
According to the timeline outlined on KNBOR's Kickstarter page, beta testing for KNBOR has just been recently concluded as of this writing. After the Kickstarter campaign, the Knbor team will then focus on further optimizing the product for mass production. The production of the units for shipment to Kickstarter backers will commence on February 2017. All units and rewards are expected to be delivered a few months later, in June 2017.
